Minor Counties: Bulcock and Tolley are Cumberland heroes

TOBY Bulcock was a bowling hero and former Chorley batsman Josh Tolley scored a brilliant 100 as Cumberland marched into the last four of the Minor Counties Cricket Association One Day Knockout yesterday.

The Baxenden-born Bulcock, who played for Accrington and Rawtenstall in the Lancashire League, claimed four wickets as Cumberland bowled out Cornwall after Tolley had made a brilliant, unbeaten century in the game played at Truro.

The Cumberland players travelled through the night on the Manchester United team coach for their mammoth trip and after losing the toss they were put into bat at Truro CC.

Tolley, who now plays for Woodhouses, was the leading light with the bat as he made a quite superb 100 not out despite the tough batting conditions.

That helped Cumberland up to 224-7 from their 50 overs and allowed the bowlers to go to work.

Chris Thompson, who earlier made 38, claimed three wickets before Bulcock weaved his magic to claim 4-32 as Cornwall collapsed to 105 all out.

They will now face another mammoth journey in the semi-final on Sunday, July 1, after Dorset easily beat Cheshire.

And the winners of that game will get a dream day out in the final at Lord’s.
