Clarets agree record fee with Saints for striker Rodriguez

JAY Rodriguez could be on the verge of leaving Burnley, after the Clarets agreed a record breaking £7million fee with Southampton.

Saints have led the chase for the sought after striker since winning promotion back to the Premier League.

And they may have succeeded in fending off competition from a host of top flight teams, including Newcastle, Everton and Fulham, after getting the closest to Burnley's £8m asking price.

Personal terms have yet to be agreed, however.

Rodriguez is currently out of the country and has yet to meet with the south coast club's officials.

But Southampton will be hopeful of landing one of their prime targets, 12 months after having a £5m bid turned down.

Should the deal go ahead it would break the club's outgoing transfer fee record, set by Steven Fletcher two years ago.

The Scotland striker joined Wolves in a deal worth £6.5m.

And the 13.5 million for Shearer would easily be 40 million in the present tense. If that's how you want it.

So? If my mum was my sister I'd be a Rovers fan, but she isn't.

You also don't account for the fact that you signed Shearer for an English transfer record fee whearas Jay is a product of our youth team. When was the last time a product of your youth set up went for £7 million?

How about you stick to your articles on this site rather than trying to distract from your own(hilarious) plight. And while we're at it is there any more proof of the lack of education, intelligence and football understanding in Blackburn than their claim that Kilby has siphoned off money from the club?

Back on topic, £7 million is great money and there's really no way we could turn that down unless there was a better offer knocking around. With Ings and Austin we'll still have a great strike force at this level, we could invest £1-2 million of that in someone like Vokes to provide us with a different kind of player then £3 million for a new defender and midfielder and we'd have a decent shot at the play offs. Jay needs to leave to get Premiership football and put himself in the frame for an England call up so it would be wrong for us to stand in his way.

£7 million for jay is a lot of money and i think we will be doing very well to get that amount.

i would value jay at between £4-5 million so you would have thought southampton would have taken their shopping trolley to Trampwood were they could buy jakubu, junior toilet and Nzonzi and still have change from £4 million.

Half of that is decent money in the Championship. Looking at the players we've been linked with we could spend £500k on Clayton who looks good, Shackell for £1.2 million and that would still leave us with another £1.8 million for a target man. That would leave us with a good squad if the youth players can make the step up to provide cover / options from the bench.

The same way... So it will go on improving the training facilities, youth facilities, player wages, transfer fees and playing surface... Fair enough. Oh, it's good to be a supporter of a well run, financially stable club.

Like I said, these insinuations that the board at Burnley siphon money from the club shows up Rovers fans to have little intelligence and understanding of football finances, but what do we expect from the great unwashed masses who saw there club unrealistically bankrolled to Premiership? Now get back to your own articles, I think you'll find more airheaded dreaming over there, BRSIT anyone?

As a Premiership club you could command bigger fees, there's no way you'll be receiving £7 million for any of you players now you're in the Championship, your best prospect could even walk for a few hundred thousand.

If you are going to try and be clever by quoting dates from your long and distant past, then it would be a good start to do a bit of research.

Shearer was sold after Euro 96, we all know he was probably the best striker in Europe at the time, even the most biased Burnley fan would agree with that, you had a fantastic side with Sutton and Shearer leading the line.

The question is what the hell has all this got to do with Burnley selling a player for £7 Million?

The sooner you lot realise that you are playing in the same division as "little old Burnley" next season with a club that is in chaos and on the verge of financial meltdown, then you may come to regret taking the **** as realistically you could be in for a massive fall as the games will be the closest anytime in the past 25 years.

Honest opinions, are we getting a good player? Assuming he comes of course.
Burnley's best ever player. He'll probably get in your reserves. Just. He wouldn't get in Rover's youth team.

I think you know very well why Rovers are in the sh*t at the moment. Once we get rid of this lot it may take some time to work our way back, but get back we will. What has happened was totally unforeseeable...Hope the same thing doesn't happen to you.
I never said that I didn't know why you are 'in the sh*t'. In fact I acknowledged it by suggesting it must hurt to keep looking at a well run club.

You came on here trying to put our club down and suggesting we were being cleaned out by our owners, which made you look like a fool, I asked why? You haven't given an answer.

And do you really think you'll get back? You only got there in the first place because you had a sugardaddy, you won't get another, Sheikhs and Russian oligarchs don't go backing small, Lancashire, Championship clubs, we know that - time for your own dose of reality. Now stop dragging down the average IQ on here and get back to your own club's articles, I'm bored of you.

You'd get more sense out of a senile goat than any of the puddle-drinking Bonleh fans on here. I was doing you a favour.

As for going bust, there's more chance of Burnley beating us. Did you know they hadn't beaten us for 34 years? Don't mention it though, they get upset.

Yep they certainly are going bust much to the delight of us clarets fans.

They will have to spend their days training the fighting dags and racing the ponies up and down Bolton road once our friends venkys have closed the hellhole down and made it into a cricket club.

you lot will have to move your caravans out of the ewood area when venkys have finished raping your club. A cricket club needs to be in a decent area not full of run down caravans like it is now.

Burnley fans absolutely adore venky chicken.

Ignore the Blackburn "fans", they're doing absolutely everything they can to try and distract themselves from the fact that they are an national laughing stock, granted all it does is make them look pathetic but when you're a Rovers fan pathetic is actually a step up from ground state.

Jay is a top class player, he's not a goal poacher, or a target man he's a technically gifted, athletic, intelligent, creative all round attacker. On top of that he's a hard working, model pro. I honestly believe he is a potential England international - and the last Burnley player I said that about was Gary Cahill.

The only question mark I'd have is that he's only really played week in week out at one club and it may take him a while to settle in because it's a big distance to move on top of stepping up a division, hopefully Jack Cork and Danny Fox would help with that.

Alan Shearer; England Captain and World Class striker; Jay Rodriguez: youth team product, talented and full of potential. The two don't really compare do they Matt? If I may say so, a comment unworthy of an educated person. £7m is good money. Needs to be re-invested into the team with the acquisition of three new players. Lack of depth in the squad cost us dearly last season.

Had you done your research it could be the closest for 33 years.
I have done my research because there was little between the sides when we played in the old second division in 1982/83, i'd say the gulf between the playing squads started in about 1984.

I hope you were one of the regulars from that era as the finances coming into Ewood Park weren't even enough to pay the phone bill, you don't know how lucky you are that Jack Walker came along because otherwise you'd have been in a right mess.

Why are all the drovers supporters back posting drivel on here and still living in the past ?

Could it be that they have No future.no prospects,,no money(except you know who ?) and very soon no club. Latest rumour is that agent Keen has entered a team in the Orphanage Cup next year.

When will you lot ever start using the present tense?

Jay needs to leave to get Premiership football and put himself in the frame for an England call up so it would be wrong for us to stand in his way.
hello my 6 fingered friend 7 million is peanuts for a product of youth system, we just got 18 million for phil jones does that answer your question please engage brain before putting mouth in gear. lol pmsl coyb

Here comes the lonely braincell brigade! Is there anything more pathetic and embarrassing than resorting to tired old 6 finger insult?

Maybe engage your brain and read my comments from days ago where I acknowledged that I forgot about Phil Jones, or get someone else to read it out for you if you struggle with the longer words.

Did no one ever teach you how to use capital letters or punctuation? The irony of trying to call someone stupid and inbred whilst not being able to read or type properly is just too sweet. Go back to school and then come back here when you're intellectually ready to meet me on a level playing field, I'm guessing it will only take you about 17 years.
