EVERTON are seriously interested in luring Jay Rodriguez to Goodison Park - but won’t be able to finance a big money move for the striker until they sell.

Reports from Merseyside over the past 24 hours had suggested the Toffees have had a £6.5million bid accepted for the Turf Moor favourite but that is understood to be premature.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands Everton are big admirers of the Burnley hot shot but need to bring cash into the club before they can make their move.

Even if they were able to finance a move, it is believed they would be reluctant to match Burnley’s £8million valuation of the 22-year-old.

The Clarets’ high valuation is unlikely to shift any time soon either with a string of clubs ready to enter a bidding war for the England under 21 international.

Fulham, Southampton, Newcastle, Norwich and Reading are all understood to be tracking him as well but, as yet, no one has got near to Burnley’s expectations.
