BURNLEY RES 4

ZAVON Hines scored twice in six second-half minutes to secure a comfortable win for Burnley reserves over their Morecambe counterparts last night.

The Clarets gave a trial to Chelsea midfielder Jacob Mellis, and the former England Under 19 international made a good start in setting up the first goal.

The 21-year-old, who has had loan spells at Southampton and Barnsley in the last two years, slipped a ball through for Junior Stanislas, and the fit-again winger prodded past advancing keeper Chris Kettings to give Burnley a seventh minute lead with his first goal for the club.

The former West Ham wide man turned provider for Daniel Lafferty four minutes later, as his corner was headed in for the left back's first goal for the club.

It was a double boost for the Irishman on his return to the side following a hamstring strain picked up in his last game.

Morecambe didn't make too many advances before the break, but Jack Errington was on hand to block out Sean Breen on the line just before the half-hour to preserve Burnley's 2-0 lead.

Keith Treacy was denied by Kettings' legs at the start of the second half, before Hines made it 3-0 in the 54th minute.

The striker fluffed his finish, but had still done enough to send the ball looping into the top left corner.

Hines completed the scoring on the hour, albeit with the aid of a deflection inside the Morecambe box.

Perhaps with an eye on Sunday's Championship game at Cardiff, Lafferty and Stanislas were soon substituted, along with the hard-working Mellis.

Treacy almost added his name to the scoresheet in the 74th minute, but Kettings did well to palm the winger's shot around the post.
