FULL TIME: Crewe Alexandra 2 Accrington Stanley 0

PAUL Cook has started his reign as Accrington Stanley boss with back-to-back defeats after two late goals gave Crewe victory tonight.

Substitute Max Clayton was in the right place to turn home a corner from six yards nine minutes from time to put the hosts ahead in the League Two fixture.

Cook was taking charge of the Reds for the second time, after a 4-0 home defeat to Plymouth on Saturday, but Luke Murphy sealed victory for Crewe with a right-footed effort in stoppage time.

The Reds handed a first start to the impressive Jamie Devitt, who saw a shot saved early on.

Peter Murphy had an effort deflected over and Shaun Miller shot too high for Crewe.

Bryan Hughes came off the bench to put a shot over but the home side then found the net twice before fellow substitute Michael Smith had a header cleared off the line in the dying seconds.

Stanley: Ian Dunbavin; Danny Coid, Toto Nsiala, Dean Winnard, Kevin McIntyre; Peter Murphy (Michael Smith 83), Luke Joyce, Charlie Barnett (Bryan Hughes 63), Jamie Devitt; Padraig Amond, Craig Lindfield (Micah Evans 63). Subs not used: Sean Murdoch, Liam Willis.
