Walker aiming not to put her foot in it

PAULA Walker will be looking to end her World Cup campaign on a high in Calgary later today – as long as she doesn’t put her foot in it!

The Blackburn bobsleigh ace finished a disappointing 15th place in Whistler last week but only after she accidentally kicked the steering out of action.

It meant a bumpy ride down the track for the world junior champion and brakesman Gillian Cooke as they slid out of contention for a decent finish.

“We had a fantastic start and I think we could have been on for a personal best before my foot fell on to the D rings (steering),” said the former St Bede’s pupil.

“It meant that we had no right turn so I could not drive the sled down from the 13th bend.

“It’s a shame as I think we would have had a lifetime best result.”

The 25-year-old is hoping the mishap will give her the perfect incentive to do well in the eighth and final round of the World Cup.

Walker currently lies 10th in the overall rankings and a seventh place finish in Konigsee in Germany last month is her best result to date.

She added: “Myself and Gill were very sore after that race but we want to finish what we started.

“What happened has really spurred us on for Calgary and hopefully my feet will behave.”
