By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean has warned his Blackburn Rovers side ‘the clock is ticking’ on their Premier League future – but insists they have the resolve to bounce back from Saturday’s Emirates Stadium humiliation.
Robin Van Persie’s hat trick helped Arsenal to a 7-1 drubbing, equalling Rovers’ worst ever Premier League defeat – and the scoreline in Sam Allardyce’s final game in charge - as Kean’s men sit second from bottom in the Premier League and three points from safety.
With relegation rivals QPR up next at Ewood Park on Saturday, an angry Kean admits the pressure is now on, but has backed his players to show the mental strength to recover.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored twice, with Mikel Arteta and Thierry Henry also on the score sheet, after Morten Gamst Pedersen had cancelled out Van Persie’s second minute opener.
Gael Givet faces a three match ban, after seeing red for a reckless lunge, while right back Jason Lowe is a doubt for the hoops’ visit to Ewood after suffering what is understood to be an ankle ligament injury.
Kean said: “The pressure is on. We have not got many games left and we need to get to a position and points tally that is going to take us out of this zone we are in that is not nice.
“So what we will be doing is making sure the lads know their responsibilities with and without the ball and they know now the pressure is on because the clock is ticking.
“We get back to work straight away and start to prepare for QPR. There have been many times this season where we have had disappointing results but we have always had a reaction.
“That is what I said to the lads. The game is finished and the pressure will be on to get a result against QPR. But we have always had a reaction.
“We have always bounced back. This one is really tough to take because of the score line, it is a horrible afternoon, but we have to respond and we always have.”
Kean also apologised to Rovers’ travelling support on Saturday after admitting they let them down.
“The boys know when I am not happy,” said Kean. “I will always give them credit where credit is due but I felt today our work ethic was okay in spells but I think we felt sorry for our ourselves.
“There is a way to respond. When you go behind it is about releasing your emotion to feel angry or feel embarrassed. That then motivates you to have a personal standard that you don’t go below but I think today we have to question ourselves on that.
“The fans stayed to the end and that is why when the final whistle went I made sure they all went over to applaud the fans because they stayed until the bitter end.
“They never gave us anything but excellent support and I feel for them because we have let them down.”

The reality is we have 18 points from 24 games. There are 14 games left and we need 22 points to have a chance. Only a gambling man that doesn't do his homework would bet on that one. It is obvious that Kean is just a puppet and is well out of his depth. He has no trust from his team and should have gone before christmas.

It will be any three from nine teams I think - Rovers, Wigan, Bolton, Wolves, QPR, WBA and Fulham, Villa and Stoke.
I include the last two because I think that Stoke City will be dragged into the fight as they seem to be struggling now and have only won one of their last eight prem games and are still in the FA Cup and Europe which might divert their attentions) Also Aston Villa are dismal right now and they have not won any of their last 12 (yes 12!) prem games.
So not just us having a bad time of it!
50% of our games are at home and with some better and more consistent home performances then we should be capable of beating QPR, Villa, Sunderland, Norwich and Wigan at Ewood.
Plus we could get maybe a point from either of the two games Man Utd or Liverpool - so that would give us 16 points from our home matches.
If we assume that 40 points is the 'safe' tally needed this season which is quite reasonable - then we would only need a further 6 points from the 7 away games.
We could get those from wins at Wolves and Bolton - crucial games as they are both 6 pointers....and we could also expect at least two points from the games at West Brom and Swansea...but probably zero return at City, Spurs and Chelsea.
So if we can play at the same level as we did against Everton and Fulham then we have the possibility of finishing up on 42 points and staying-up.
The home games are the key to survival plus the away games at Wolves Bolton and West Brom.
If we do fail and fall then at least lets do it in style with all guns blazing - rather than the abject surrender and wimpish display we saw on saturday.
Don't know if Kean can inspire the team to reach those heights and get the results which are needed for survival - but the sad fact is that we don't have any other options at the moment.
We are bad yes but so are all the teams around us....so all hope is not lost yet!

Kean quote re Samba "I've decided not to put him in the squad"..."He's one of our key defenders". Absolute genius decision taking into account our atrocious defensive record with no clean sheets, even Orient got a couple. Beggars can't be choosers.
No way can he miss the QPR (esp.now Givet banned). Perhaps we could have done with an experienced Premiership level centre half for the Arsenal game as Samba wasn't included. Someone like Ryan Nelsen, mysteriously released from his contract but nevertheless fit enough for 3rd place Tottenham to believe he can "hit the ground running". Similar situation to Emerton's contract being terminated out of the blue (which comparatively went under the radar as it was the biginning of the season and we had yet to plummet). Our struggles at right back could have been resolved with Emerton who always did a good job there.
This follows the brilliant decision to play one striker at home to a Newcastle side missing Tiote,Cabaye,Demba Ba and Papa Cisse.
Why is Rochina no longer starting, he's one of our best talents?
Why the silence from the owners? Is the LET trying to contact them or even ask Kean about it?
Couple posts said Hoilett lined up for a German club. Which club?

I was utterly embaressed this weekend by our performance. Quite honestly, it is the worst I've seen in modern times from a Rovers side. At least when we lost to Man U at OT under Sam that was a GREAT Man U side. Look at the team Arsenal had. They ain't even that good.
What gets me is, by all accounts Venkys really want to succeed with our club and fully believe in Steve Kean. Yet for gods sake, surely they can now see where we are in the league, how close we are to finishing the season relegated, and our 7-1 loss.
How can they look at our current situation and NOT want to make any changes? It just doesn't make sense. Do they honestly think things are going well?
I still don't believe their primary goal is asset stripping, if that was the case we'd have sold of Samba, Hoilett and others in January. So they obviously want to have a go at this. What more evidence do they need that their 'brilliant' manager is anything but?
Kean is now not only the official worst PL manager in history, he's also going for another record, most goals conceded in a season.
We should have got rid of Kean a long long time ago. So I guess we now have no choice but to focus on being 100% positive in matchdays and cross our fingers.
If we go down, Venkys, get the hell out of our club. You've been absolutely thick as sh!t to stick with this kit-man so long, and by doing so have virtually condemned us to a whole season of struggle. Not to mention your lies and broken promises.

Mr Kean is just a frustrated puppy. He knows no better, so to keep getting angry at him is pointless. It looks to me like he is a fool that takes what venkys say and passes it on to the fans. There was no cohersion between what he predicted for the transfer window and what happened, and I'd be surprised if he didn't believe that he was going to make early transfers when he said it, but was let down by the money from venks. The only solution is for venks to leave and the only way to ensure that, is to lose financial stability, and advertising potential. They can easily cope with idle threats and critisism, so the only way to bring them in line and acting responsibly is for the Banks to be very very vigilant. I doubt they will lose any sleep when they take the club to financial ruin, they are detatched, like the mansions they bought probably as an expendture on Rovers business plan.

Anderson subsequently came to further attention for his influence at first Manchester City F.C and then Blackburn Rovers. At Manchester City, between £5 million and £7 million was reported to have been paid in commission to Anderson as part of the recruitment of eight new players in the weeks following the takeover of the club by Thaksin Shinawatra in May 2007.Anderson advised Shinawatra on the takeover, introducing him to Keith Harris (whose firm, Seymour Pierce, handled the deal) and recommending as manager Sven-Göran Eriksson, before his influence waned as the new owners balked at such payments and other figures –notable Kia Joorabchian and Pini Zahavi– became involved. Anderson said: "There is no one else in the world who could have delivered what I did in three weeks. It was my idea to open it up to other agents, and whatever I was paid –and it wasn't as much as City say– they've had it back in spades

So, if it took a drubbing for the Manager to realize we're in deep trouble then some good might have come from it. However, as someone has already pointed out to be sure of being safe we probably need to win one out of every two games which is a big, big ask.
However, just one word on the protests, we are stuck with Venky's, Kean and the current squad until the end of the season come what may so regardless of all the issues everyone may as well shelve them until the end of the season and have their say then.
Unfortunately, the protests have only drawn negative attention, given Kean the sympathy vote and resulted in Supporters being falsely and at least partly blamed for the current predicament. 100% support for the team from hereon in will at least stop others from pointing to this as an excuse.

I would like nothing better than for Venky's to sell up and go home and take their Puppet with them but it doesn't look like this will happen between now and the end of the season so my question is really what actions over the next 4 months (and 4 months only) affords us the best chance of staying up?
Ridiculous as the current ownership has been over the last 12 months I can only see it being worse not better in the Championship and from there I really worry that we are going to end up like another Portsmouth.

What's really sad about all this is the disablement of the comments section by the LET at weekends, presumably because of some legal threat and the LET not employing a weekend moderating boy. What an odious character Anderson is for getting shirty after the Rovers fans responded to his inflammatory comments in the Sky interview. And LET, you're as bad for not standing up to this. Take a look at any other newspaper comments sections, there is plenty of inflammatory material on there, posted by individuals who are disconnected with the newspaper. The last I heard, individual commentators on a forum do not represent the views of the institution to which the name of the forum is attached. So why are you taking it up the a$$? There is so much going wrong with the Rovers at the moment, it stinks.
I also would like the LET to tell us on here why they are taking this stance ?.

We here nothing from the'' Indian Bury the head in the sand Gang'' And the LET asks probing questions about them and what is going off at Blackburn Rovers FC, But i have asked the LET on here before for a explanation about this ''Legal reason'' thing and they do not give a explanation for there actions.
They cannot say they do not read our comments,As its our comments that has brought us to the reason of shutting down on a weekend.

So even though reality beckons - I won't write the Rovers off until its mathematically impossible for us to stay-up....and THEN I will try the Absynthe! Care to share a glass or two...?French Rover wrote:leave the absynthe alone matey, it's starting to rot your brain! Only a gambling man that doesn't do his homework would bet on that one. It is obvious that Kean is just a puppet and is well out of his depth. He has no trust from his team and should have gone before christmas.Doing the homework and maths then with 14 games still to play we still have a much better than evens chance of staying-up.
A sensible discussion without anyone reverting to name calling or threatening abuse.
I hope and pray that your correct French Rover.
I watched Arsenal v Rovers on Saturday and to be honest it is the first time I have watched them and thought we are in trouble of dropping down.
Obviously after every match you can pick highlights and cling on to them with hope.
Unfortunately after the Arsenal match there is not a lot of hope left.
The response against QPR will, I think, decide our future this season.
Defeat and I think we would be really up against it.
A win and I could still see us getting out of it.
I really hope its the latter
and yes I am in touch with reality and yes sorry to disappoint El Tel (who for some strange reason seems to think I am Steve Kean) but even I think that the results I suggested are unlikely to happen, but I was just pointing out that there is still a possibility of staying-up no matter how unlikely that is.
Dave Jones Blue and White army.
You mention Stoke have won one in 8...against? If Kean had played Rochina at home instead of one up front we'd have beaten Stoke.
I think West Brom could get dragged into it.
The simple fact is that we have to get a winning mentality. KEAN is a LOSER, NOT a WINNER.
