Blackburn Rovers protests to be postponed
9:57am Thursday 15th December 2011 in Sport
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
PROTESTS Sections of Rovers fans have demonstrated
ALL organised protests at Ewood Park for the crucial next two Premier League home games have been postponed after organisers claimed to have made progress in their bid for improved communications with the club.
A section of supporters have protested against manager Steve Kean and owners Venky’s since early September but organiser Glen Mullan has now reiterated yesterday’s calls in the Lancashire Telegraph for calm ahead of a crunch Ewood Park double header.
With Rovers languishing in the Premier League drop zone, organised protests over the past few months have included pre-match marches, post match sit ins and even a plane fly-over.
Supporters have even been in conflict with each other, as frustration at the club’s situation mounts, while co-owners Venkatesh and Balaji Rao left the Premier League visit to Wigan at half time after coming under heavy criticism before the match.
Mullan has been in talks with club officials in a bid to bring an end to the Ewood hostilities and, ahead of Saturday’s visit of West Brom, has told the Lancashire Telegraph it is time to call them to a halt.
This comes on the back of yesterday’s plea from two East Lancashire businessmen and lifelong Rovers fans, Ian Battersby and Wayne Wild, in the Lancashire Telegraph to stop the protests in a bid to make Venky’s feel able to come to the club to sort the current problems out.
Mullan said: “We are in advanced discussions with the club and we are very, very pleased with the progress that has been made. John Newsham and Paul Hunt’s attention to detail over the last couple of weeks has been exemplary.
“There will be no organised protests this weekend before, after or during the game. We are not cancelling the protests we are postponing them for the next two games, after discussions with the club and with Wayne Wild as well.
“We ask everyone to get behind the team for these two very winnable football matches. Six points is the most important thing, while we remain committed to trying to open up lines of communication with the club for the fans that can stay there for a long time.
“We want a line of communication that will be permanently open.”
Concerns remain over Rovers’ Premier League future with question marks hanging over whether Venky’s are ready to invest in the January transfer window.
Fans are also frustrated at the lack of communication from Venky’s over the past few months but all hope this proposed period of calm will provide a suitable atmosphere to start putting things right “We want fans to be the club’s 12th man for the next two games,” said Mullan. “I need to assure supporters we are not selling them out. This is a postponement as we remain fully committed to seeing out what we started. We are still committed to the cause.
“The supporters who have been protesting, the councillors, Wayne Wild, Ian Battersby, everyone who has raised their concerns in recent weeks have been working for the same goal, and we fully appreciate everything everyone has been doing.
“The protest organisers would also like to make a personal apology to Jason Roberts for the chants heard during the last protest, it was not in the spirit of why we were protesting.”

Kean however had the perfect opportunity to unite the fans after the Swansea game, but chose to ridicule and dismiss them, as he has done for most of his tenure.
I agree with Glen the fans must be united, but can't help but feel that we are being sold down the river by incompetent owners, a poor managment structure and inferior players when compared to last years squad.
Hopefully the atmopshere within the stadium will be good, and we will see a couple of wins.
But nothing alters the FACT that Mr Kean is nowhere near being a premiership manager and his remarks and treatment of the fans have been abysmal and shocking.

A Meeting next week with the Board, independently chaired, with people with influence away from BRFC also present. To answer the questions which have never been asked or answered which effect the long term future of the club.
There is a chain of command at Ewood and you have to go through every channel before you get to Venkys, and ultimatley we want Venkys to come over to Blackburn and explain to the supporters in person what they intend to do about this mess.
The Kean OUT issue will no doubt be dealt with by the supporters come saturday. However the clubs long term future and the answers we all seek won't be solved on the stands, this can only be solved by talking and actions from the owners

He can now tell the idiots in India, that the fans can see the progress that has been made over the last two games, with victory over the mighty Swansea, and a solid performance at Sunderland, only losing due to bad luck and a bad ref.
The idiots in India will feel justified in sticking by Walter Mitty, and realise he was 'right' all along, and that we are now on course for that top ten finish he's been promising. He may even get another pay rise out of it.

clearly i largely disagree with the protests and certainly with the nature of many things that are said. but if people feel protests are a good way to get the opinion across then you could argue some amount of success. it appears a door to clear dialogue between the club and some of the fans has been opened.
however, we still have intransigent fans who will not be happy until their demands are met. that does not seem to me to be about sharing a common goal. that seems personal and childish.
so the club may not be being run exactly how you want it, but certain people have put themselves in the position of trying to change the club by buying it. whilst that is not an option open to most of us, we can't just hurl abuse if things don't go our way. let's get the talking started and move things forward as a group. that will be the basis of a successful club in the long term. both sides will have to give a little, but both will hopefully gain a lot.

He's been criticised for organising protests and now he's criticised for suggesting protests are postponed for the next two matches.
I haven't always agreed with his views, but at least they are articulate and well thought-out, unlike a lot of the poisonous dross that's posted on here.
Personally, I think he and the businessmen are going about it the right way.
You've got to remember the culture in India, which is based on respect - and before anyone jumps on this, I'm not suggesting Venkys have earned any respect, apart from the Ronnie Clayton stand - but constant foul-mouthed abuse is more likely to make them dig their heels in and ignore any protests.
Be respectful and polite (as hard as that could be) when dealing with Venkys and we may have a chance.
I'd bet my season ticket that Ian Battersby and the main stand sponsor didn't just wade in and start shouting and swearing at them. You've got to 'play the game', and in this case the game is 'respect'. It's a matter of treading carefully, putting arguments across in a forceful but reasonable manner, and not alienating any who could be wavering in their support of the present regime.

I agrre though but then again I am reasonble and an optimist...needed at Rovers
I have done business in India and the Sub continent phsyce is odd to our way of thinking. The norm is to agree and smile and politely listen and say yes even when they think NO!
In fact they condider it rude to say no to someones face and negitiating is always tricky because of this .
It is just a cultural fact of life and the Rao family reaction to the horrendous abuse and vilification is not suprising.
I am not defending their record, it is indefensible but we all need to recall that they were met with a negative reception from Day One.
CHICKENS ON HEADS RING A BELL anyone, chants of One Jack walker when they were being introduced?
It is not surprising in that light is it?
I was guilty of reacting negatively to them as well so I am not blameless.
We really need to take a hard look at ourselves as well though?
That includes Glen Mullan et al

calling a truce and giving venkeys more time but come the next 3 games when we will be lucky to pick up 2 points and are rock bottom of the table at the start of new year and venkeys and kean are in charge and a few of our key players have been sold and not replaced , then what?
just imagine in the new year if yak got injured and we had roberts up front as a lone striker without samba and hoilett
doesn't bear thinking about especially with kean in charge i can see some crushing defeats ahead.
doesn't make sense that glenn has gone from anti kean and anti venkeys to lets get behind the club especially when performances and results are getting worse by the week. sounds like he has become another yes man to me!
for blackburn to survive IMO we need new owners, new manager, and to get rid of half the current squad that are not up to premiership standard and about 35mil to spend in january (however who the hell would want to come to this mess)
the next to games will be the final nails in the coffin IMO rather than the great escape! 2 points out of the next 3 games is my prediction which sound about right as we have been averaging less than a point a game and nothing has changed since other than performances and moral hitting rock bottom.

My mission is to infiltrate the next two Rovers home matches wearing a protesters T-shirt and boo from the kick off until the final whistle. This action has been designed to suck in all the Rovers brain dead lemming nomarks into destroying their own teams morale and thus performing like a bunch of under 11's on haslingdens cow pat infested mud pit on a sunday afternoon.
I expect the opposition to break double figures such is going to be the low ebb of self belief the players feel. My god we even had Givet feigning a heart attack to get off the pitch last time they ran out.
I'm sure all of the brain dead will join with me, thinking I am one of theirs and we will even congratulate one another on what a fine job we did of ensuring relegation.
Mission accomplished and all for £25 cheap as chips. and a fun day out for all. Its a lot cheaper than hiring a plane for £2500 but will have far deeper impact. You see we still owe you for the plane over Turf Moor
Any Claret fans wanting a day out may tag along for the spectacle.

Act now, remove muppet and give new manager (Hughes) money in transfer window and I'll happily bin my 'Venkys Out' t-shirt. I think however that I'll be wearing it on Blackpool beach come the summer!

I'm quite capable of formulating my own opinions, judging the pro's and con's of the situation. I decided to protest not because of Glen, but because of the situation unravelling at Rovers. It was easy to see last season that Kean was not up to the job and Venkys were not living up to thier promises. I may say that we who did raise questions early could see the farce unfolding long before people such as yourself. The only comparison you could make to hounds, is that we sniffed the S#*t out earliest!!

Ian Battersby (all bow) said the Venkys made all the right noises when he visited Pune in the summer. However, since then he admits there has been a lack of action. No shtt Sherlock! The Venkys failing to deliver? Wow. Didn't see that one.
Before the agreement was made to stop the protests, did anyone get any assurances? For instance. Will Kean appear on Mach of the Day claiming he has tamed the fans with his brand of winning football?
The two matches coming up are really irrelevant. We may win, but then we have Liverpool and United away. Two easy matches solves nothing, especially if we lose players in January.
What counts is Venkys commitment. Will they put up some hard cash in January or will we see three or four Premiership players leave to be replaced by SPL players from Dundee and Alloa. Our managers ex club?
I really don't see why we ought to be encouraged to establish dialogue with owners who have habitually lied. They have past the point of no return along time ago. Blackburn Rovers fans must do everything they can to protect the club from these carpet baggers - and that means PROTEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

We cant deal with the clubs finance or new players that are bought or sold, nor can we tell any Manager how to set-out his stall, gone have the days when you hear about every player who is injured unless they are out for more than 4 weeks.
Only the management Staff know who will play and where they will play every game, all Managers now keep their game plan a secret,King Kenny started that as we all know!
It's going to be a up hill battle but IF WE WILL GET THERE IF WE STICK TOGHETHER!

I echo them, with owners who live so far away and have no real idea what they have got themselves into abuse in any shape or form simply will not work.
.
Whatever their reasons they bought our club, in a period of recession, ostensibly with good intentions but they have been scared away by the venom aimed at the manager they appointed and them as well.
.
They are business people, If they loose interest they haven't any emotional or historical attachment to Rovers as we the fans have, they could simply cut their losses and run.
.
While I think that is somewhat unlikely it will be an option I would consider in their position, in that scenario Rovers wouldn't just be relegated, they would cease to exist.
.
So good luck Glen and the rest of the negotiating team.

I know why we are sh1t at the back because we have yet to field the same back four in consecutive games so whats your excuse Notlobber?
