BURNLEY have withstood periods of West Ham pressure to go into the break goalless.
Kevin Nolan had the pick of the home side's chances just before the half-hour after receiving the ball inside the six-yard box but, with only goalkeeper Lee Grant to beat, the midfielder turned it wide.
Matt Taylor had earlier headed over Julien Faubert's right wing delivery as the Hammers put Burnley on the back foot.
But the Clarets weathered the storm and Keith Treacy was unlucky not to hit the target with a right-foot effort from distance 10 minutes before the break.
Eddie Howe's men had found it difficult to offer much of an attacking threat up to that point, with lone striker Jay Rodriguez having his work cut out against Amdoulaye Faye.
West Ham always looked a threat on the break, and it needed a good block by David Edgar to deny Joey O'Brien just before half-time.
