Blackburn Rovers’ main sponsor in attack on Venky’s over ‘lack of leadership’

BIG CONCERNS WEC Group’s group director Wayne Wild. BIG CONCERNS WEC Group’s group director Wayne Wild.

THE group director of Blackburn Rovers’ main sponsor has accused the club of a lack of leadership after calling for owners Venky’s to start communicating with supporters.

Wayne Wild, group director of the WEC Group, in Darwen, has told the Lancashire Telegraph of his frustrations that he has received no direct contact from Venky’s, despite writing a letter of concern to them six weeks ago.

Mr Wild, a Rovers fan for more than 30 years, admits he feels as though WEC are not being valued as clients and fears the negative publicity surrounding the club is having a direct impact on the company.

WEC, an engineering and fabrication company, is the main sponsor of the Darwen End stand and also have corporate hospitality at Ewood Park, with two tables in the Premier Suite, four directors box tickets, four stand tickets and a private box.

Mr Wild has been in contact with commercial manager Simon Williams for more than a month but, despite receiving a late offer on Friday of a meeting with the owners in London on Sunday, he is still waiting to have direct contact with Venky’s.

Mr Wild, said: “I don’t want to be treated like god, because we are not.

"We are a corporate sponsor and the owners have the authority and right to do what they see fit with the club.

“I don’t think they understand the issues it is causing, though.

"Blackburn Rovers Football Club is the heart and soul of the town.

"It has been for ever and certainly since they were in the Premier League.

“It creates employment for the town, the indirect business of people travelling to the games, and the sponsorship.

“I just feel if I can’t get a reply - as the only paying corporate sponsor - that underlines the frustrations that general supporters are having, because there is no direct contact.

“We feel not valued. As well as the business side I have offered to mediate between the fans and the owners.

"I feel there is a growing gap between the two. Maybe if they could talk to me, I could relay that message to the fans.”

In his letter to Venky’s chairman Mrs Desai, Mr Wild said the ‘current Ewood experience is not of a corporate entertainment environment’.

He expresses his concern about the disappearance of the old management structure, with most of the old board of directors having now left the club without replacements, and believes the uncertainty around the club is causing fans to turn on each other.

“One of my key issues is the lack of leadership at the top,” he said.

“I have no-one to contact. Steve Kean is reporting direct to the owners. It should be going through a board of directors.

“There is nobody there. I am having to go to the commercial department who then go to a representative of the owners.

"In terms of the running of the club on a day to day basis there is nobody there.

“Blackburn Rovers was a model of how to run a football club.

"The model was worked on over a number of years and that has systematically been wiped out over a short period.

“If they are not interested in talking to anyone the gulf will get wider.

"We need them to agree to say when they are going to put a solid management team here in Blackburn.

“It is not about the position of the team. It is the whole structure of the club.

"There is no leadership from the top down and fans are turning on fans.”

Mr Wild, whose WEC Group are in their fourth season of sponsoring Blackburn Rovers, has urged Venky’s to start communicating with supporters and insists that is needed before they have the unreserved support of the fans.

“I am willing to act as a mediator between the two,” said Mr Wild.

“I don’t agree with everything the protesters have been doing.

"I can understand it but I don’t agree with it all. They are just trying to get something done.

“If my key customer had sent an official letter in, I would have replied immediately. Six weeks down the line I have no form of official reply.

“What I am trying to achieve? I am trying to request some form of communication.

"If it is direct to me, then I can pass that back to the fans.

“Being a supporter is hard enough to take but paying for the privilege of sponsorship to be linked to this is both embarrassing and damaging to our company name and brand.”

So! Perhaps now the owners will start to listen. If it means the loss of valuable sponsorship money, (they can't get a shirt sponsor to pay anything). If WEC threaten to withdraw their sponsorship then things may start to happen. There is no way any other sponsor will come forward to donate monies to this bunch of, to put it politely, charlatans.

This is really embarrassing now... a plea from our main sponsor to open dialogue?! Seriously what has become of our club?!

Steve Kean and the on pitch shambles he orchestrates week in week out aside, the whole and I mean every single part of our club is in disarray...what will it take for Venky's to realise? Or do they know what they are doing and simply just do not care?

I've been worried about the whole future of BRFC for months, but I get more worried by the day...

What I want to know is when is the LT going to grow some wotsits and start asking difficult questions?

When are you going to dispute what Kean tells you and make it a difficult interview.

i.e, when he said about only genuine fans going to QPR, Fulham etc, why was he not asked if he thought the 15,000 season ticket holders were not genuine fans.

When he said that if we'd got another 4 points from Chelsea, Spurs and Norwich we'd be halfway up the league, was it not poited out to him that actually we'd still in the bottom 3.

C'mon LT, you are letting your readers and the town down. What is your explanation?

I believe we couldn't attract a shirt sponsor this summer gone, and as a result had venkys on the shirt before getting the princes trust charity involved.
Lets be honest here, who would want to be associated with venkys, who had made us a laughing stock almost as soon as they took over the running of the club, maybe we could approach the comedy channel and have the keystone cops on the our shirts next year!

Mr. Wild's approach is absolutely spot on and identifies the core issues - i.e. there is no longer a structure to the club.

It really does beggar belief how the owners could choose to ignore such pragmatic suggestions from Mr. Wild.

Kean isn't the real problem (although he is a big part of it), the source of the problem is the Venky's. I fear that even if Kean goes, then he'll be replaced with no one of any substance or pedigree.

Venky's - you have ripped the heart out of OUR Club. Just go now please.

These well thought out comments show the real plight we are in. When the major sponsor and a long standing supporter starts to question leadership, poor communication and states he is literally being ignored, we have an even bigger problem, than just the dreadful form and poor, out of its depth football management. Why would any business put money into the club as a sponsor with this distainful treatment?

We are rudderless on the way to relegation and potential financial melt down.

Its high time that the owners took the reponsibility of ownership seriously and started to show real leadership, recognise the issues, do something about them, start to communicate with supporters, listen to us and recognise the vital cash sponsors bring to the club. But most of all accept the football management isnt fit for purpose and isnt working and its time to bring in change, quickly, before its all too late.

I am weary of seeing my once proud club, that I have supported for decades being a laughing stock. If the owners cannt or wont act and assume their reponsibilities then its time to find someone who will. What is the point of owning a club and letting it fall apart......beats me.

I assume that if they have a board in Poona , they don't need one in Blackburn as well. now , meetings are to be held in London.
however , why they ignore sponsors , is beyond me.
to me , it appears that setting up coaching in India is their only concern .
the sooner they sell to the Quatar group , the better for all concerned.

That day is fast approaching and each day that goes by the situation worsens. Talk about Rome burning! The trouble is that when they come to their senses it will almost certainly be too late.
What an insult to your main sponsor to be told he can travel to London if he wants to speak to them when they were here the day before.
And how can you run a business with a line manager reporting directly to faraway owners who don’t have a clue what’s happening and what damage they are wreaking. No wonder he can talk a good game!
We’re hurtling towards a sorry, sorry day for a proud football club.

I now bitterly dislike the takeover of twelve months ago - all the hype and promise and no plan A or B. I give credit to the players who remain spirited and together - but surely some of then (the more skilful and senior) will be coming to the conclusion that they have been sold an 'exciting times/european football con. Having followed this story for weeks and seen Waynes passion both in person and the way he presents himself over the telephone I feel its terrible that a proud local sponsor who not only sponsors our club, but provides many jobs and training for the local community, is treated this way is beyond belief. I was lucky enough to see the letter Mr Wild sent to the owners, and it was drafted excellently from both a supporters and sponsors point of view. I really hope Venkys now take it upon theirselves to speak with Mr Wild as our club needs people like him around the club. He is one of the good guys and I do think he can bring a alot to the party interms of educating them on how badly things have got.

Twelve months ago I asked the question why Venkys an Indian family who although wealthy did not seem the sort of people to throw money away on a football club, had bought Rovers.Today I have asked myself the same question and the answer is I don't know.
I asked myself why sack Sam and appoint a no mark who they could have known nothing about.I think I can answer that one,Jerome Anderson.
I have asked myself why Kean who has been a big failure,is still in a job when he would have been sacked at any other club.
All the fears I voiced twelve months ago have come true, and I said at the time I would love to be wrong.I wasn't wrong and I am very very sad.I now believe we have 2 weeks to make a change or we are down and again I hope I'm wrong.

Well done Mr Wild - your points about the structure of the club (or lack of it) and the failure of Venkys to comunicate with fans are one of the core problems (one of a number unfortunately) that are currently blighting our club.
.
I also made the same points to Paul Hunt recently - and to be fair to Mr Hunt, he seemed to be totally au-fait (sorry about the spelling FR) with these problems and in many cases agreed there was a problem. Unfortuantely he seems to be the only senior person working at Ewood as the lack of appointments to senior positions after months and months is nothing short of disgraceful.
.
One point I suggested and he liked was to organise a question and answer evening with at least 1 Venky and 200 season ticket holders, drawn at random - he might be keen on the idea but will Venkys ??
.
I would also encourage ANY and EVERY current Rovers season ticket holder to email the club through its website and complain (without any abusive language) about the current situation. Say you will not renew your season ticket unless the situation changes and that you would like to air your complaints with a senior Rovers official - they usually will do this and the more people that complain about the same things (lack of structure, broken promises, no comunication, manager who's slightly better than dusty bin etc etc) possibly, just possibly we might get things changed.
.
Unfortunately it is one thing getting your point understood by Paul Hunt, a clued up football guy but another thing him being able to get the message across to Venkys - and there in lies the nub of the problem.

VH Group since long has been actively involved in direct or indirect promotion of
different sport categories. A few of the prominent sport events where the group has
contributed its share are Indian Premiere League,20-20 Champions League as a sponsor
of Trinidad and Tobago, ATP Mumbai Tennis Tournament and many other sports at local
level.

Sports and health goes hand in hand and Venky’s has taken one step further by owning
one of the most popular English Premiere League Club – Blackburn Rovers. By
fructifying this deal Venky’s has become the first Indian Company to achieve this fete.

This club has a proud history as that of its owners and has won English Premiere League
for three times and FA Cup six times in total. As a part of its future strategy, the VH
Group is determined to establish Blackburn Rovers as a truly global brand and take all
efforts to ensure retaining and further upgrading its status of being one of the best run
clubs within the premier League.

Straight from the venky's site so clearly says it all that to them we are nothing more than a marketing scheme and trying to promote us as a global brand and for there own history as owning a premiership team........we need to pull together now the fans falling apart is a disgrace and something that should never happen to such a family orientated football club such as ours........I'm disgusted that we are seen as nothing more than a brand and not a class act which we once was. I feel for the players I really do and there is part of me that thinks Mr. Wobblehead Kean is as said before nothing more than a cheap replacement to keep costings down. I believe the only logical answer to the conundrum surrounding all that is going on at Rovers is that "venky's London Limited" do not need fans, or indeed a properly functioning football team, as part of their plans, whatever they are.

It seems to me that all they require is the empty shell of a club that is temporarily in the EPL hence has a guaranteed income from shared tv rights and then "parachute" payments once inevitably relegated.

I believe the word that best describes our famous, much loved old club is "collateral" and unfortunately the same word also applies to the incedental "damage" that is about to befall us.

The only alternative I can see to the above is that our owners are simply all as nutty as a fruitcake.

Either way we are deep in the brown stuff and my heart bleeds for the future that we should've had.

The owners can't even maintain dialogue with the clubs main sponsor? Outrageous behaviour. Judge us after a year said Venky's, well here we are and just what the hell have you done? We all know the list by now, perhaps the most disappointing of all though is the way the fans are turning on each other. All through apocalyptic mismanagement. Well done Venky's

I sincerely hope you get the answers we all crave and are invited to act as a medium between the owners and the fans, but somehow I doubt it.

I don't know what your intentions are if they don't respond, but I know what I would do if I was in your position. I know doing that would hurt the club you obviously love, but it appears anyone financailly supporting the club, is taking a big risk with their money. We all hope that the bulk of that we spend, is reinvested by way of improvements to the team. Sadly I genuinely believe that the owners are raping the club and hoping the team succeeds despite them, not because of them.

If Kean does happen to be in charge for any more matches, I dare say he is now fully aware that almost all of the fans are now against him and the owners and our corporate sponsors have concerns too. Spin your way out of that one Mr Kean.

Nothing wrong with your french spelling JC, nor with the sentiments you expressed.

Surely to god Paul Hunt or even Wayne Wild or someone with that kind of common sense and influence and integrity at the club can illicit some kind of positive response from our owners?

I just wonder why none of the crummy media journos and ex-fleet street hacks or TV luvvies have not done an investigative piece on the Venkys yet? Surely there is one being put together now in advance of the story taking an even worse turn soon...bit like having a program ready now for when the Queen dies..

Just another nail in the Coffin, We were told at weekend by other Newspapers that they have mortgaged the club based on future income and we all know that is going to drop. What have they done with the money if it is true. If they have taken money and mortgaged up to the hilt, who will buy the club if it did come up for sale. What will happen to the ground and everything else if they defaulft. Very worried.

Probably more good than his team talks.

Most managers inspire the team at half time. Not old Keano. Apart from Saturday, when was the last time we held on to a half time lead?

Can't fault the fans for that. In fact I don't think you can fault the fans at all.

As someone said, if Venky's go, Kean will too. But that's a massive ask. Surely one step at a time? I understand it may be too late, but looking at how long it takes these clowns to make a decision we're best off changing one thing at a time. Any more and they'll just confuse themselves and keep it as it is.

Let's sort out the team management first, then go for the owners (whilst keeping them aware we're not happy)

As for replacements, I think Hughes would come. With Kia as his agent he'll go where offers him money. O'Neill? Nope. He's too clever. My shout would be Nigel Adkins from Southampton

I think that seeing as (at least) 99% of fans & the main sponsor seem to now be in agreement, then we should try to clarify, what we think is wrong (in simple terms) and what we all (collectively) think needs addressing.
.
Personnally I think we should push for -
.
1 - Removal of Steve Kean as manager.
.
2 - Implementing a proper, off-field management structure.

The problem is Venkys are hardly at Ewood so I'm begining to wonder if this will be enough.

According to reports they were genuinely shocked and suprised at the fans anti-Kean and Venkys chants on Saturday at Wigan. Sounds like golden-boy Kean has been spin-doctoring to them eh? Not a suprise given his record of lies to date. Any fan here knows that he spin-doctors every post-match conference. Not to mention his greatest spin-doctoring of all... lying to the police.

The man is a fraud and a liar. I truly hope for the good of Blackburn Rovers that Saturday woke up Venkys to what is really going on and they are currently putting in place plans to replace him.

If not, we are truly relegated.

The only other option as I see it, aside from matchday protests, is to hit Venkys where it hurts - their business. There must be a clever PR Rovers fan out there who has ideas on how we can do something to discredit their name, and make the name 'Venkys' a laughing stock in business (it already is in football...)

completely agree with the need for measured comments. the organised protests too have been managed in a completely reasonable way, even though i disagree with the principal of them.
+
i do feel there has been too much hateful and unhelpful dialogue about our manager and there is likely to be an ever growing tirade of equally hateful language now aimed at the owners. this would be a shame, as progress so far has been made when things have been dignified.
+
am i ready to throw in the towel just yet? perhaps not. i just don't see the logic in the hassle a group would have to go through to do all this deliberately, so i don't think the mismanagement of the club to date is anything beyond just that - mismanagement.
+
however, there must be a clear response from the ownership to this and they now need to show a willingness to change. if they chose to stick with the manager, that is there decision and i almost admire the principaled stance. however, responding to honest and reasoned questioning in a timely fashion does not involve them changing their plans, it's just plain courtesy. that costs nothing and i would expect more.

But the last year has been the biggest series of being built up to be let down i have ever know, not even just in football terms.

After the Wigan game you think 'surely, he MUST be sacked now, they were at the game, they saw the unrest, SURELY!?' and then we find out the rumours are **** and the papers still report he's about to get an improved contract.

Well we are relegated then. 26 games left and as has been proved by his tenure thus far, Kean is not capable of stringing a run of results together.

I'm beyond stunned at the news of his improved contract. After Venkys saw the fan unrest and anti-Venkys/Kean chants first hand on Saturday, this is nothing short of two fingers up to every single Rovers fan.

Even if you're not a Rovers fan, you have to think - why, in a world of business, supply and demand, is an improved contract even necessary? In football a new contract with improved terms is usually offered on the basis there are other parties out there who would hire said employee, the increase in money usually reflecting their value.

Well is there ANY club up and down the land who would want Steve Kean as manager right now? I don't see a queue of clubs after him. Forget about the issue of even sacking him. Why is it necessary for an improved contract?

F-Venkys, F-Kean and RIP Blackburn Rovers. I think I'm done. I will not be attending Ewood again until this slimy little weasal Kean is removed. I can't bear to see his sh!t-eating grin again, he doesn't deserve a single penny from Rovers.

Skysports has not yet said anything about a new contract for Kean but my mate said the other day (and has reasonable Rovers contacts) that he had heard that the new contract increased Keans wage BUT reduced his current contract termination clause from 12 months to only 6 months and that Kean was REALLY REALLY unhappy about it and that is why it had been rumoured for weeks without anything being signed - but that info was not from a rock solid source unlike yesterday when I posted that Rovers HAD been contacted by QP (despite what Mrs D said) - that info came directly to me from within Rovers.
.
If he does sign a new contract then I prey to God that my mates info is right !!

That has no baring on this whatsoever. Whether he signed the new contract 1, 2 or even 3 weeks ago is still nothing short of an utter disgrace. No wonder the slimy little weasal was giving it large to the Rovers fans at the end of the Wigan game. He's having the last laugh.

This little toad is on big bucks at the end of the day (dare I say, probably earning more money then Rovers fans who contribute here), with absolute no consequence of fan unrest, off-field disgraces, and more importantly: results.

Something is rotten to the core at Rovers right now, and Kean and Venkys and whatever dodgy business they're doing is at the heart of it. We need to ensure the Premier League investigate this, as in my eyes, this new contract just screams dodgy goings on to me.

RIP Blackburn Rovers.

I was often the victim to this kind of abuse, especially as there were only a few of us on here in the summer who saw the warning signs ahead and that Kean was a complete chancer. I and anyone else critical of the manager was frequently called 'not a real supporter' 'the negative agenda' etc.

BUT Roversloyal: you have to drop this now and let bygones be bygones. They probably feel a tad silly about their initial stance, but in life I always give huge credit to anyone big enough to say "I was wrong". That takes balls. So the likes of KDG and WildRover are ok in my book.

Blackburn Rovers is a proud club that we should not let die. It's more important then ever that all supporters stick together and have complete unity for the good of our club. Fans cannot be divided anymore.

It looks like we're going down now, and we may even be losing some players. But us fans will always be here. So let's work out how to get this slimy little weasal and Venkys out of our club. As whilst they're in charge (with Jerome Anderson sniffing around) it's quite clear this is not our Rovers anymore and we have no future.

I have no respect for these cranks and odd balls.

That was a touching post ChrisSutton!

And well said!!

I understand RoversLoyal, he cuts a little too close to the bone sometimes and is lucky in some ways not to have been blocked by LT... but he is very funny, writes well and makes good points too!!!

There is no doubting his genuine concern and passion.

RoversLoyal's ongoing saga with KDG was funny and in some way it was/is symbolic of the rift and civil war between the fans....

What about a big banner on the hill between the Riverside and Darwen End...."Beware India and the World....Venky's Leave a Nasty Taste!".
Put it up every home and away game until they clear off and take the muppet with them.
Today should be the day we hear anything about Kean being sent for by Venky's, any news on the outcome of the meeting??

What a great contribution from Mr Wild and one they can't just kick into the long grass. Venky's are a disgrace just in terms of their contempt for the ordinary folk of a fine old town with a football tradition hardly surpassed in the world. But having no shame they'll probably ignore this devastating blast.

Since when has it been the LETs job to take responsibility for what's happening at deadwood?
Your all complaining, and yet you all wanted a big conglomerate to come and take over in the hope that it might make you a big club, you wanted Sam allerdyce out, you got your wishes, don't whine and winge now, and the good old walker trust? They sold you out too, roll on the fire sale!!

I have had my fall outs with KDG and we have both said things to each other that probably shouldnt have been said - but this continued digging at her is WAY out of order.
.
I would like say though that KDG and others (Ricktvr, Wildrover, Ii1111 etc) are not and have not been "wrong" in all this. They have said all along that they were perpared to give SK "time" - now they all say "his time is up" - that is not "being wrong", that is simply giving him more of a chance to prove himself than most of us did.
.
Like CS said - we need to come together stop any infighting and focus the "villans" - Venkys !!

For me this is the lowest point in followin my beloved Rovers for 26 years. This is me well and truly tipped over the edge. I have given Kean and Venkys more time than they have earned. Not sure what I am gonna do but I am gonna fight like f~~k to get these disrespectful, arragont idiots out of our once great club. I and many other Rovers fans have more passion and love for this club in one of our fast greying hairs than Kean/Venkys/Anderson put together. If we had owners who understood the game Kean wouldve been long gone by now. In fact he would never of been manager in the first place. This is what is so depressing about the current situation and any thoughts for Rovers future. The Venkys do not understand football.

If just half of everyones suspicions, or beliefs are true, is there no way that an investigation into their 'financing activities' could be urged tobe looked into by the FA, or whoever?
I think that we all know that just mere supporters have no power whatsoever to discredit Venky's as that is what I assume we all want (if they are actually dealing illegally at BRFC expense).
If found to be doing so, that is about the best way to cause them pain.
There is the forum tonight where it would be good if suggestions were made to enact this and maybe Mr Wild would have some valuable experienced thoughts on this.

.
She said she'd give him more time, now she said "he's had his chance and failed" - she never said "Kean is God".
.
I had many "arguments with KDG" as far back as June when I was predicting this to be a disasterous season if we didnt buy big and early in the transfer market - do I feel VICTORIOUS today because my words have proved to be right ?? - NO, I feel desperately unhappy that we are 19th in the EPL and seemingly heading for the championship.
.
I would love Rovers to win the next few games under SK (if, God forbid, he's still here) and if so I will come on here and say to KDG, Wildrover etc - you were right to give him more time cos he's finally come good !! (although I don't expect this to happen and if it were up to me his feet wouldnt touch the ground).

Why do I want to do this - because WE NEED TO WIN FOOTBALL MATCHES not massage our own over inflated ego's !

I would love Rovers to win the next few games under SK (if, God forbid, he's still here) and if so I will come on here and say to KDG, Wildrover etc - you were right to give him more time cos he's finally come good !! There is only one solution - stop going to games, hit them in the pocket - this cant be about supporting Rovers and needing to go to games to show it, there is no Rovers as we know it anymore. How can anyone, anywhere justify giving the most incompetent Manager in the PL a new contract and more cash. The Venky's are raising 2 fingers at every fan. There is something very sinister going on

How on earth did Venky's get control of this club? Surely the FA should have some questions to answer after letting these idiots loose on the club. What happened during all those pre buyout checks and why wasn't any of this situation forcast? It wasn't difficult to see that there only interest was to use the club to enhance there business, not to provide for fans or businesses involved with the club. Even if they didn't spot it at the time, they have some nerve sitting back and watching the club crumble. The checks were put into place to prevent what happened to Portsmouth happening again, looks like they worked well didn't they?

Maybe you are a Bunny Boiler? You are very very strange.

The objective of the game is to score goals! Possession football is good but boring to watch. I prefer Counter-attacking football, the best thing about it is we use the other team’s desperation to score :-)

Long-ball/Direct football is ugly but can be effective, but you need a strong target man and we woman are too small really, you will find this out when you grow up.

Playing with wingers is exciting for us players and the fans, spreading the ball wide, USING different angles of attack and giving opportunities to the winger; I like to take on the fullback and drag central defenders out of position, cut inside and move forward at an angle, or whip in a cross from deep for the strikers to attack in my dreams!I am not that good :-(

Zonal defense is to cover for a team’s or player’s lack of pace or technique, every defender and midfielder is given a zone on the pitch to cover when the opposition has the ball. This is good during set pieces, but does relies on every player doing it and keeping their concentration and it can be risky.

Man-to-man marking needs discipline by the marker, and good decision making by the manager but not with Kean!! Man-to-Man marking can be dodgy if a slower defender is matched up with a fast striker!!!

Hi Melanie - I think you have got the wrong end of the stick.
.
Me and ChrisSutton were virtually the FIRST people on here saying SK IS NOT A MANAGER - and we got some terrible stick for it - I'm talking way way back into last season and certainly along time BEFORE Roversloyal was and I had some terrible back and forth "dingdongs" with KDG way before Roversloyal ever went head to head with her.
.
My point in defending KDG is that we need to move on - the bigger picture is VENKIES
.
I also didnt like the "victory" statement - no-one on this side has anything to congratulate themselves on - as far as I am concerned we should all be "feeling the pain" of our current position.

Its very easy to mark a player out of the game even if he has greater pace than you, you just block him out and lean in. The trick is keeping between him and where the ball is going
Zonal marking is good when you have a back four who knows how it works. The idea is to mark the zone and not the player. You attack the ball space. The problems of this system is when players move and jostle for position and you end up with more in one zone than the others making attacking the ball space very difficult or downright impossible. The confusion arises when " handing players over " from one zone to another. Players forget to attack the ball and start to wander with the player and when you end up with lots of the opposition in one zone you end up conceding too easily.
Foreign players have a better appreciation of zonal marking as they get trained that way from the beginning.
I prefer man to man as each defender knows who he has to stop. The problem with man to man is you are more focused on where your man is instead of where the ball is.
To stop conceding goals Rovers need to work on a more man to man system, at the moment they appear to be trying zonal hence players from the opposition looking like they are in acres of space when they recieve the ball. What with that and being very slow to close down we are just sitting ducks.
We need to be more man to man and defenders need to close the game out quicker.
Kean cannot seem to get the guys in one cohesive defensive unit. Too much confusion and lacking in effort when not in possession.
Other than that we are scoring goals so it should be easier just to sort out defensive duties.
I must say defensively I have been a bit disappointed with Samba this season. Considering our teams height we concede to many from set plays. Givet has been our best centre back but samba has been very average. Dann I'm not to sure about but I think he needs a stable partnership and a few more games to know who goes and who stays.

At what point do we say, "Enough is enough?"

It seems clear to me that Venky's recent actions ("new deal for Kean") and the negative responses of fans (and now sponsors) indicate a club in terminal decline.

So, why aren't difficult questions being asked of the owners, administration, and team management? Isn't that news?

I am sure it is difficult for LT journalists to balance a working relationship with the club and the need to report newsworthy information in a timely fashion to fans.

But surely now is the time to be talking with members of the Rao family, the club's administration (such that it is), and the team manager?

And difficult questions need to be asked, not just ones that produce the usual easily deflected, pat answers.

If Venky's, the club's senior administrators, and Steve Kean are not willing to talk, then report THAT, and editorialize on it.

Talk to John Williams and Tom Finn. Talk to Sam Allardyce. What are their perspectives on what is happening at the club?

Do they have written clauses in their termination agreements that forbids them to talk to the press? Then print that. We need to know.

Come on LT, you are the voice of the East Lancs community. Rovers fans want to know what is REALLY happening at Ewood Park.

Right now we seem to have nothing solid at Ewood anymore, just a castle built on sand and sinking more quickly every week.

About time an' all.
Respect to you for that.
"Respect"? Russ.... this gut spat venom at the Venky Out/Kean protesters; the likes of KDG, Li111, Wild Rover, True_Blue_84 - brayed like donkeys on hind legs. I have no respect for these cranks and odd balls.
Very True RoversLoyal, but in the end he admitted he was wrong better late than never I suppose, eitherway just goes to show what we have all said (anti-kean/venkys) was right and believe we should all stick together and stay the course from now on and anyone who still backs these ar$eholes can go and ....
I agree with Rovers Loyal. He makes a good point. KDG is just plain nasty. KDG used to wind me up, this is my first post and i nearly registered because she used to wind me up... but at least these people have seen the light!
I know how KDG reacts and at first she use to wind me up till I found out obviously she was a girl, now I just read her posts because at times they often make me laugh because she will stand her ground regardless even if I dont often agree with her views I have to respect them.
I knew it! I knew she was just a girl. That explains a lot. I am a woman, and i play football, i made the mistake of thinking she was a woman ;-) May be RoversLoyal did too?
Okay melanie as you are a footballer and I want to talk about football.
What system do you prefer defensively, a zonal or man for man, or in your case woman to woman when defending set pieces?
what defensive strategy should we employ in order to stop shipping so many goals.
In your opinion what is Rovers best defensive line up considering we haven't had a settled back four or a clean sheet all season.
Do you think we'll see the vukavic fellar in shorts this season on a regular basis, what attributes does he bring to our game plan?
What formation do you think best suits Rovers needs at this time?
Do you like cheese? :0)
I like cheese yes, why?

I play football, i don't talk about it like you do. I play it - at a good level, that is why i know you are not a football fan.

You have no care for Rovers, you just like to disagree.

I don't know what we should do to stop shipping so many goals, that is Kean's job and it depends on who we play!!!

I think Givet and Samba in the middle, Olsson left back and the versatile Nelsen at right back i would say.

Is it true to lock yourself in a dark room and self-harm then write really bad poetry about it?!

Is KDG a troubled EMO? :-)
Thanks melanie, at last an opinion on football.
Do you like Peas?

Come on, LT, and expose this lot. This is one of the biggest stories in your newspaper’s history and you have a duty to carry out a thorough investigation into this shambolic mess. It is incomprehensible.
Mistake after mistake after mistake. Gaff after gaff after gaff. But, then, maybe not. Perhaps everything is being done deliberately. There are some very pertinent points here and WEC Group have given you an ideal springboard to root out what is going on.
To leave Wigan at half-time and then (reportedly) say they will not come back until the protests have died down, then ignore your major sponsor, shows utter contempt for the club. What IS their agenda?
What prompted them to make the decisions they have made? On what advice? Where does Jerome Anderson, Kentaro and Zahavi, with their vested interests, fit in? Why have they assigned future income to the bank when they promised to clear the club’s debt? Why did they so spectacularly renege on their take-over promises to respect the Jack Walker legacy, to keep the management team in place and ensure that the Rovers remained one of the best run clubs? Why have they bought seven or eight players ‘for the future’ and what is their transfer policy? Why is this not only a ship without a rudder – but also without a captain? And many other questions.
Speak to John Williams and Tom Finn. I know they will have confidentiality clauses in their pay-off deals and cannot speak on the record, but there are ‘sources’.
Speak to Sam, the ex-directors, ex-players like Bryan Douglas, John Jensen and others strictly off the record. You don’t need names – just ‘sources’.
They are wreaking havoc on the biggest institution in your circulation area. We are hurtling towards catastrophe and you are sitting back watching it happen. Uncover what is going on. You owe it to all supporters.

well said roverfor60years.
Venky's have an agenda that is not in BRFCs interest. They have substantially reduced both team and backroom costs - but to what end? They have left the club with no effective management structure in place and have shown a complete disregard to any legitimate concerns raised. Their policy of non communication with their fans and their biggest sponsor is a real concern. They clearly have something to hide and are avoiding public scrutiny

Oh dear! Is anybody actually in Ewood Park on a daily basis, apart from the ticket girls and the cleaners?! Unbelievable!

I'm also guilty of giving Mr Kean and Venky's time and the benefit of the doubt (not publicly cause I knew I'd get jumped on) but enough is enough.

There has pretty much been bad news everyday since they took over!

Hopefully the protests will continue and get stronger and stronger.

They saw and heard the fans reaction at Wigan and they did'nt like it, so now they intend to teach us a lesson with this ridiculous decision.well, they want media coverage, so let's give it to them, stay away from the next home game. If we let the team play in an empty stadium that would generate plenty of news...Never mind backing the team,it's time the team backed us!

-D.K.O
I ask you and everyone else who is thinking of staying away to come down to Ewood on matchdays to protest. we all have to carry the fight. I'm upper tier jack walker and will try to make the protest heard up there. I think we all know now that we are not suffering from collective paranoia, we know the club is in freefall. Please everyone make It your mission to target Venkys, Kean, Anderson. Get them out of our club. Email the FA & Barclays to investigate the events at Ewood. We have to get answers as to what is going on. 0% Venkys 0% Kean 0% Anderson. 100% BRFC.

Well said Mr Wild! Thoughtful comments that I am sure reflect the feelings of a lot of the fans. I think the lack of communication from Venky's here just goes to show how little they care for the fans and the club. The more time goes on I find it harder and harder to believe that our owners who run a very successful company are simply being naive when it comes to running a football club - I can't help but think that there are some underlying motivations for owning the football club that do not include in any way the interests of the club itself

Hi all,

Sorry guys I promised I wouldn't comment on here until Steve Kean was removed from his duties, however I am now so concerned about my beloved club I feel I must.

I was talking last night to several people who work at the club in different capacities (I can't really say anymore but they are good honest reliable people.) One of the problems is that Venky's have put a cousin of theirs in charge at the club, and nothing, and I mean nothing can get to the owners without going through him first. So in this case even going through Commercial Manager Simon Williams, he has then still to go via the cousin before it goes to Venky's. the guy at the club has no football background and is so arrogant that all the staff hate him, and he has no idea what he is doing. So it wouldn't surprise me if the owners didn't know about this situation until very recently. It does not excuse in anyway the way that a loyal supporter and large sponsor has been treated, but to me highlights the complete incompetence and lack of understanding these people have in running a football club. Secondly it is also now becoming clear that the majority of the protests and bull coming out of SK mouth has been also kept away from the owners, not only because SK wants to keep his job but also because the cousin will look a fool for running such a shambles and letting things go so far without acting.

I am now actually sure that with this going to press and other things coming to light, the owners may start to listen. We the fans need to be a little more structured in what we do. Nobody likes being told what to do, not even Indian owners!! We need to provide them with solid evidence of fans feelings, not just chanting an banners, or even I'll thought out planes. We need to strike while the Iron is hot, we need a real poll of a true cross section of supporters carried out by an independent organisation. This will then remove any questions by them and ensure the whole process is transparent and neutral, and the results are collated away from anybody who may have a positive or negative influence on the outcome. If the outcome is that SK needs to go and Communication from the owners and Club needs to be vastly improved then they must listen!! They are business people and as such we need to get our point across to them in a coordinated and fact based fashion. They will then quite simply have to act. If their main customers (the fans) and sponsors are not happy with the current running of the club and as such are deciding to vote with their feet and money, then it will cost the owners more in the long run. Even if their long term goal is to asset strip they will still need income to keep the club running so they can do that. No ticket sales or sponsorship means more investment from them or the club goes bust and they lose their entire investment.

So how do we do this? I know several companies that will conduct the survey and would be happy to be part of any group of supporters who wishes to take POSITIVE action to resolve this mess. It's time we acted in an organised professional man nor, we need an official group, anybody interested let me know.

The owners are the problem. It comes accross in your piece like you are making excuses for them, how can you say we should talk to them about what has been happening at their club? Stupid cousin or not, they just gave the worst Manager in ther Prem a wage increase, in our name. They are useless football club owners and they need to go. I have no mutual interest in this lot, they have hijacked the club, I would not like to give them the satisfaction of watching fans grovel.

If they'd have invited me over they would have had it both barrels long before now.....I think "backstabber" Kean has managed to see a lot of the old guard off in order to preserve his position at the club. After all he seems to be the only one with any route through to Venky's. Who can blame him when he manages to trouser £25,000 a week from the Ewood kitty. Kean out!! Venky's out!!!!

Let's face it the new owners and their advisors have screwed up big time. If something positive is not done immediately the full force of the fans fury should, and will, turn on them. They need to accept the truth, their first year in charge has been an utter disaster both on and off the feild. This circus cannot be allowed to continue. A first step to gain some credibility would be to appoint a competent and experienced manager on a short term contract to stave off relegation, which is now looking more certain with every match. Come on owners act now, before your tenure becomes un salvageable and a PR and publicity nightmare!

I do agree that the arrogance and incompetence of the Venky,s "family" is the only reason for all that has happened the last twelve months.
They have needed advice from day one of course...and taken very poor advice/judgement re players and Manager-Staff appointments PLUS, thinking they could run the club like a business branch from their base in northern India.
Running of Premier Football club to them having been the egoistic pleasure that included hanging their family picture in the A1 position in the "owner" private lounge (setting aside Jack Walker,s photo and they have only been around for one disasterous year) !!
"ONE MORE SEASON".....you are so right....great comments.

Gleechy, I am not supporting the owners, but saying that all protests need to be done in a constructive way, and a poll conducted by an independent source that highlights a full cross section of the fans feelings on issues such as the manager and transfer policy as well as club communication is the best way to go. If the owners are not here they will continue to be lied to and given all the positive spin. But if the independent poll lands on their desks with the true feelings of the fans and sponsors on they must take action. If the fans conducted one on their own the spin doctors would simply say that it was tainted as the organisers were anti Kean and Venky's.

We need to be professional in our approach with these people, I know that people inside the club are frustrated because their concerns are not being heard directly by the owners only second hand via the cousin. We need to present them with facts, I know the results and position we are in is factual, however the protests and minority of fans being against them is spin. Knowing business people and especially Indrian busriness people they are very proud people. They will not like to lose face (ie back Kean the whole way) the only thing worse than that to them is to be lied to by their own people, and I truly feel they are realising this is the case. If we act positively now and back up their new concerns with true fan and sponsor feelings I feel they will start to listen.

Football fans no longer have the power the once had, quite simply because it is purely a business now and the income from fans is a pittance compared to TV monies etc. So to be heard we to act positively and speak the language of the owners (business) and this will make them sit up and listen.

Finally, think about this, if people start slagging you off personally, what is the first thing you do? You get defensive!! You then become awkward to deal with, and perhaps even become slightly arrogant!!?? If you are then presented with facts in a calm and calculated way that proves you are wrong, most people would hold their hands up and admit guilt. Ring any bells? It's about How we communicate with them, not what we are saying!!! You may say this way is too soft, but believe me it will work, minimise negative publicity of our club and get us the result we all want!!

Best wishes

I totally agree with you. It is time to force Venkys to answer some very important questions. There still hasn't been any action from Venkys to back up the big words they have been using when talking about their plans for the club. It seems more and more clear that they are just here to make a big profit and then just jump the sinking ship. They said they wanted to keep our best players and all the young talented players. Then we lose Phil Jones, and next out are Hoilett and Samba for sure. A new contract with a release clause of £16.5m added.....shrewd business people, I don't think so. Not even that can be said about these liars. Sir Alex called it 'a steal'. Jones was obviously worth way more, but the amateurs running our club didn't see that. Apparently they have not cleared the debt like they had promised to do, instead they had to pay off some of their own loans with the money generated from the Jones sale. They got rid off Allardyce who at least guaranteed us Premier League safety, and they put a complete donut in charge and everybody knows the result of that: 6 wins in 33 games. AND STILL THEY ARE MORE DESPERATE TO GIVE HIM A NEW CONTRACT THAN TO SORT OUT OUR PROBLEMS! In fact, Steve Kean is one of our main problems, still they just slap us in the face and offer him a new contract.
.
It is surely a case for the Football Association to at least look into and monitor. They must be breaking promises given when they bought the club.
.
It is time to turn the heat up on Venkys. Time to give them some really bad PR. I liked this one mentioned in smellthecoffee's post: Beware India and the World....Venky's Leave a Nasty Taste!

What you write makes a lot of sense to me, unfortunately the people we are dealing with do not work with facts or logic, if they did things would have changed by now! Venky's are on borrowed time and if no management style change occurs soon, our only option, as reasonable supporters, is to embarass them as much as possible and highlight their incompetence, thus gaining maximum exposure to our cause.

(please excuse any silly mistakes just typed this on my iPad and can't proof read, doh) Best Wishes DG666
So your the man to run things now are you?

Please do not partonise us trying to ride in on our coat tails as well as using cheap comments like " not just chanting an banners, or even I'll thought out planes" statement,

...and when we where trying our best to get the message over what was you doing to hep us? NOTHING like many others who have now realised what is happening at the club.

What you have had to say hear is old news and nothing many of us do not know already trust me the protest organisaers have acted in an exemplary manner are far more professional than you could ever muster I would imagine, so I would suggest that crawl back under the rock you have arisen from because I for one am not interested.

An incompetence borne of arrogance and not naivety. That is the most galling thing for me, and the former is far harder to address than the latter.
And Morst, nice to see a bit of parochialism. And no pathetic Vinjay to rebuke you for it!!

Kean out!! Venky's out!!!!
smell...they invited supporters....by your own admission you don't support the team so why would you have been invited?

Russia ov the rovers

I wouldn't dream of riding on your coat tails, I won't crawl back under the rock I came from either. Can you not see that I am supporting you but suggest a slightly different approach?

reference my earlier post when people are told what to do they become defensive and attack!! Reading your post point proved. That is how the owners feel, and as such a more subtle and direct approach is needed.

I have said I will be happy to help in any way I can, as long as it is done in the correct manor. If you knew what I do for a living you may understand my approach. As I said happy to help and don't want to take over, but to get to the owners we need to be a little more professional in our approach.

Best wishes
