Vukcevic ready to sign for Blackburn Rovers today

CHECKING IN Simon Vukcevic CHECKING IN Simon Vukcevic

SIMON Vukcevic is expected to complete his £2million switch to Blackburn Rovers today as Steve Kean looks to bolster his squad this week.

The 25-year-old Montenegrin international passed a medical on Friday before returning home over the weekend to pick up his visa.

Kean confirmed Vukcevic’s move was “almost there” and it is hoped he will be signed from Sporting Lisbon in time to make his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Kean also said he was expecting a defender to fly in for a medical today after a bid was accepted. It is understood the player in question is FC Dallas centre back George John.

The Rovers boss continues his efforts to add another striker to his squad with Hoffenheim’s Bosnian forward Vedad Ibisevic a serious target.

Kean is also hopeful Junior Hoilett will commit his long term future to the club imminently with his family expected in England to seal the signing of a new bumper contract.

Meanwhile, Rovers target Raul has pledged his future to Schalke amid speculation he was set to leave.

“I never tire of repeating that I feel at home at Schalke,” he said.

well that's one. keep them coming cause we're going to be needing them. slightly concerned about the vedad signing, looks a very good player, but how close is he to full fitness. we need goals and we need them now!! if he does sign we need at least one more top quality forward in.

It is more about GJ than the striker now.

9 more days to go - I am guessing Samba and Givet - both of them to leave.

Time for 3 good CBs now - and the squad looks pretty good to be honest.

With Vukcevic in too, the lads will need more game time together.

I can even accept another 2 ~ 3 winless games - provided the signings get used to each other and flourish from there on.

There is still time left to make things better Kean - but only if you are making the right moves.

hi calm thinker, did you read yesterday's posts because a couple of our american rovers fans said that john is a good player but he is not ready to make an immediate impact. i think we are going to have to try and get on either loan/permanent signing - established quality defenders to get us through this crisis.

even if John is ready, he would still need time to get used to the English game, mate.

and with Venkys looking long term, and trying to get good youngsters in, the other side of the coin says that they will anyhow need time.

i am hoping for them to do a deal for Onuoha / Bayota / Scott Dann / any other decent CB --- WHO IS USED TO EPL.

i am sure Samba is not bothering about this club - just let that rotten arrogant idiot to just freeze out.

Formica / Goody and now Vukcevic are all decent Forwards.

And there are Hoilett and Olsson who are good going forward too.

The need of the hour are Good EPL experienced CBs - at least 2 of them + GJ.

And until that happens, Rovers might get a Tevez / Rooney to go forward, and will still lose 7-5.

Once again no proven Premier League players being looked at - WHY?

Only one thing to say... I wish people would stop saying Samba and Givet are both going to leave. Quite simply our defence is threadbare and Venky's and Kean are not stupid enough to let these two leave (or even one of them leave) without having replacements in place. That isn't going to happen before the end of the window as John is Jones' replacement, therefore Samba and Givet are going nowhere. The only thing that could change this is if whoever comes in for Samba also gives us a very good defender - Arsenal don't have a very good defender so that ain't going to happen!

I would gladly take a Onuoha or a Bayota willing to play and prove themselves now, rather than a Samba who is not bothered about this club at the least.

Does Kean have a say in potential transfare targets ?
Where are the defenders ?
At least one full back and two centre backs are needed fast, regardless of samba leaving or not.
Young Hanley has took a lot of flack,
but the goals on saturday came from dunn and n'zonzi not chasing back onto runners from midfield.
Dunn does not have the legs anymore and n'zonzi had a poor game showing poor concentration.
Salgado was run ragged also.
But more protection was needed from midfield who didnt support the forwards either.
As for Roberts, we might as well have played with 10 men.
We should have started with 5 in midfield, Kean got it totally wrong, its not rocket science.
Get the new signings in playing together, get rid of the old guard,
Petrovich and N'zonzi, protecting the back 4, Formica, Holliet, Rochina behind Goodwillie.

Final comment on Dunn. I think Kean is under pressure to keep Dunn in the side. The fans don't like Kean so how can he drop a fan favorite. Plus whenever he subbed Dunn last year and the crowd booed, Dunn would be seen making a comment to Kean, and when he scored that free kick against Kitchee Dunn ran screaming at the Rovers bench.

Fact is Dunn cannot play centre mid because he lacks the energy to run for 90mins. Watch the games, he only runs when the ball is on the side of the field nearest the Rovers bench.

Drop Dunn and we'll immediately improve. Not saying we'll win every game but we'll be a better attacking and defensive side with Dunn on the Bench

Anyhow at least Kean didn't know about this player and he's being recruited on the advice of our next, soon to be appointed manager (give that a few weeks as well).

As for Ibisevic - he'd be perfect - coming injured (out till end of Sept), at least Vince could introduce him to the physios bench! However if business was meant Pappis Cisse would have been in through that door weeks ago!

Our club is being run as an absolute joke!

Sorry but I wouldn't play Olsson at left-back, just for the sake of playing him. He's a fantastic talent going forward but he's not good enough at the back. Also, I'm not sure if, on some subconscious level, you already expect us to be playing in the Championship next season but you've only listed five substitutes when the Premier League allows seven.
