Blackburn Rovers fans vote to set up trust

Blackburn Rovers fans have unanimously voted to set up a supporters’ trust.

At a meeting in Blakey’s Cafe Bar in Blackburn town centre, fans heard from Jaqui Forster, of Supporters Direct, Norman Watson, of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust, and Duncan Miller, of the proposed Blackburn Rovers Supporters Trust (BRST).

Miller, acting chairman of BRST, said the trust is now entering the unknown and fans will have to be patient over the next couple of weeks.

Miller said: “We’ve been meeting and working together since the start of last season and all our efforts have really been geared towards organising the public meeting.

"So now the trust has been approved, we must get together and work out where we go from here.”

The trust’s long-term objective is to one day have an elected representative as a fan on the board at Ewood Park.

The next step for the trust is to work with Supporters Direct to iron out all the bureaucracy, before holding a launch party, at which people can join the trust and the recruitment of members begins.

A few months after this, an official election will be held to decide who will work in what roles on a board of between eight and 12.

As part of the meeting, a raffle and auction of various Rovers memorabilia was held in aid of the Denise Hendry Foundation, set up in memory of Rovers legend Colin Hendry’s late wife, and his daughter, Rheagan Hendry was special guest on the night.

Any fans who were unable to attend the meeting but wish to be involved at any level should email their name, address, email address, contact phone number and any skills they feel can be beneficial to the trust to brst@hotmail.co.uk.

Will the trust be able to buy shares or do Venkeys own all the shares?

midas - pretty sure that Venkys own all the shares as Jack Walker did a pretty wholesome vacuuming of the shares when he bought the Club way back when and this allocation has been sold on via the Walker Trust.
.
If there is any share volume floating around, it will be miniscule and i think when Jack bought the Club the offer was unconditional.
.
however, even though share buying may not be an option - it doesn''t mean that BRST would have no involvement with the Club, or indeed, the Venkys.
.
BRST is currently only at the conception stage. How it progresses through childhood and adolescence will govern how seriusl it is taken by the Club and the Support base.
.
As you know with your club's instance - the likes of Kilby and Flood and previously the ugly butcher, may own the club - but those in the community own the heart and soul of the club. The only thing that remains constant in a football club is the supporters - BRST would seek to act as a single voice to recognise that. No egos, no billy big b0llo0x, just supporters concerned and passionately committed to their club.
.....works at Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich!

It's a good move to set up a supporters' trust as the only constant in any football club are the supporters. I don't understand why the BRST may not be able to purchase shares. We in the Clarets' trust are shareholders so you'd need to look into that one. Good luck with it!

good luck needs someone to keep an eye on venkys wont do them any harm to have someone with the club at heart asking questions and more importantly demanding answers

You read my mind Woody as it's in good hands with Miller11 (he got the ticket price issues and fortress Ewood mentality when many on here and even our ex Chairman did not for a while) - Pipe and slippers for me!
