BLACKBURN Rovers owners insist Steve Kean will remain their manager next season no matter what happens at the end of this campaign – and believe Europe is a realistic aim next time around.

The under-fire Rovers boss has come under heavy criticism from sections of supporters after the club’s longest winless run in 25 years sees them heavily embroiled in the Premier League relegation fight with just five games to go.

But, despite increasing pressure, poultry giants Venky’s have reiterated their confidence in manager Kean and insist with him in charge the club can look forward to a bright future.

Manchester City visit Ewood Park on Monday night with Rovers without a win in 10 games but Venky’s, who bought the club in November, are adamant they will keep faith in the man they chose to succeed Sam Allardyce.

When asked whether Kean would still be in charge ‘whatever happened’ next season, co-owner Venkatesh Rao, said: “Absolutely.

"I am very positive to my players and manager. I have full confidence in them.

“To say I am not concerned is wrong. But I think we have to stand by the manager and the players. They will come out of it.

“The club is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in the UK and to be given this chance is a dream come true.

“We have already invested. Whatever has to be done for the club, money-wise, it will be fulfilled.

“Our aim will be to see every fan smiling.”

Rovers supporters have grown increasingly frustrated by the owners’ premature talk of grandeur, especially after a worrying slump this year leaves them favourites among many to go down.

But, with their Premier League status on a knife edge, the club’s owners have chosen to break their silence to talk about their ambitious plans for the future.

Co-owner Balaji Rao, said: “Next year we will be at least finishing top eight or something, pushing for Europe. At least one cup, we deserve that.

“They are beautiful people, I have seen a very nice reception.

"They are humble people, beautiful people, very nice people.”
