BLACKBURN Rovers are ready to offer Steve Kean a full time managerial contract for the next "two to three years".

Venky’s pledge to offer Kean a long-term contract at Rovers has surprised even him after he was initially told he had been appointed manager until the end of the season.

Kean insisted ‘it was news’ to him and that he would focus on bringing new faces to the club over the new few days.

When asked how likely kean was to be Rovers boss beyond the season end, Mrs Desai said: “He is going to be beyond.

"We are making a contract for him that is going to be like a full-term contract.

"It is not just about this season.

“A proper contract, which should be at least two to three years.

“He is a very positive person. He thinks well and has a vision. Basically, mark my words, he thinks well.

"He is a thinker. That is his big strength.”

I'm thrilled obviously with the official Ronaldinho bid, it would be one of our greatest coups (no pun intended) ever and it would make me fully behind Venkys.
.
... but aren't they jumping the gun with Kean? I admit it's early days, but why not wait until the end of the season? Then if he shows himself as capable THEN make him the long term manager.
.
They just seem to have a lot of faith in him with nothing to back it up apart from 'he works' hard.
.
I think some guy on here looked into his career record recently and it turns out this bloke only played FOUR full games of football in his entire career?
.
I'll keep the faith and hope venkys stick to their word and bring in major quality this window

Because he is their puppet. I doubt he had anything to do with the Ronaldinho bid. In fact I don't think he has any say in anything. We are linked with Beckham too this morning. The whole thing is turning into a circus.

Ronaldinho - 5 years ago i would of been excited, but now he is a signing in order to promote the club globaly. That being said he is still worlds apart from anyone on our team at the moment and the younger lads will learn loads from him - but surely we could have someone else make as big an impact on half the wages. Still would be a joy to see him trut the samba style in the blue and white halfs.

As for Kean - well he is now officialy our manager. We all have our opinion on BFS's sacking but as kean is now the man in charge (be it as a proper boss or just window dressing) and unless he proves himself uncapable of doing the job he should have all of our support.

I know what you mean, but maybe we shouldn't get overtly suspicious. If you were trying to buy a lot of big names, they will not move to a club where a question mark hangs over a manager.
.
don't get me wrong, I'm concerned about Kean too, but maybe making him a long term appointment at the start of the window does make sense if you are looking to bring a lot of players in (fingers crossed!)

Have you not forgotten how long a certain Tugay performed for us for?

Quite a big difference competing in a top AC Milan to competing in a mid table Prem side. I think he'd be a fantastic signing I really do.

How the hell are people disapointed we're being linked to Ronaldinho and Beckham? When was the last time we were linked with ANY type of big name?

I still think that all this is generating unmeasurable amounts of worldwide media coverage for the Venky brand. Whether they sign him or not, Ronaldhino's name and guaranteed them so much press coverage since they sacked Big Sam - they must have recouped the money they laid out for Rovers already in "free" advertising. What next me wonders?

Two further thoughts - how is Kean going to manage Ronaldhino??? As soon as Kean tells him off for turning up late for training and to get a decent haircut like his own, R is going to tell him to "go forth and multiple" and ask "WTFAY?". King Kenny, Souness, Hughes and even Alladyce could handled him because they could point to their medals/record but what as Kean got?
This leads to my last point...who is going to want to play for Kean. Salgado came here because of SA. Our other big name managers attracted decent players but Kean????? Especially coupled with the lunatics we have in charge! FFS!

unbelievable that people are complaining about this!!
i am in shock, we are going for one of the the most recognisable (if ugly) faces in world football, whether people like it or not, the only way of bringing the club to the next level is to raise the profile abroad with signings like this one, the 100,000 population of Blackburn is not enough to keep us up there. Ronaldinho is also a top top player and still only 30!!
i am reserving judgement on Venkys until after January and even then there is fook all we can do but get behind the team, no matter who is on the pitch.

Whatever you think about Steve Kean and his management skills, players like Ronaldinho and Beckham need no managing, as they are at a level where they manage themselves really.
*
I still find it hard to believe that it is for real actually - but it sure seems to be and it is generating great interest from around the globe in Blackburn Rovers.
*
I already had several emails and calls from some work colleagues out in Taiwan and Singapore this morning about this news. Apparently its the main headline on most tv sports programs out there. And it is serious reporting, no-one is making fun or 'ridiculing' our club in these reports as some on here seem to think.
A great profile raise for BRFC in Asia, where they love the EPL and which is obviously just what the owners planned - maybe they really do know what they are doing...

Apparently its the main headline on most tv sports programs out there. And it is serious reporting, no-one is making fun or 'ridiculing' our club in these reports as some on here seem to think. None of us know a lot about Steve Kean. He may eventually prove to be an excellent manager. But the game is littered with good coaches who have failed to succesfully make the step up from coach to manager.

If this story of Kean being offered a 3 year deal is accurate why the rush? He is already in place until the end of the season. If he does well then he will deserve an extension to his contract, if he does'nt the club are not committed so making a new appointment much easier.

Kean has not yet been in post for one month and been in charge of the team for just 4 games. In that short period of time, assuming the latest stories are true, his position has already changed 5 times. He is put in charge when Sam is sacked with one of the Rao brothers claiming they had a target. A few days later Mrs Desai says they will take their time making a new appointment and it may take two months. Desai then announces that Kean will stay in charge until March quickly followed by a further announcement that he has the job until the end of the season. There are now stories starting to circulate that Kean is being offered a 3 year contract.

What has changed in the short time he has been in charge? Albeit there have been injury and suspension problems the 4 games we have seen have hardly been inspiring. 4 points from a win, 1 draw, and 2 defeats from games at worst most Rovers fans would have probably expected at least 7 points and 3/4 wins was attainable.

I have no doubt Venky's intentions are good and that they want to make Rovers a success but fans remain concerned because there does not appear any clear plan. There is stability so they have plenty of time to get to know the club and gradually develop their plans. Instead they sack Sam with no replacement in mind. They initially say they are happy with 10-12 place finish then suddently change their ambitions to at least top 4/5 but tell us nothing about what has changed. In a SSN interview Steve Kean claims he can get Rovers in the top 4/5 off the £5m budget but is unaware whether that figure includes wages. On the same day Desai tells the LT there is much more than £5m to spend. Yesterday one of the Rao brothers tells the LT there is no substance in the stories about Rovers trying to sign Ronaldhinho whilst Mrs Desai is apparantly talking to SSN and confirming we have made a £6.2m bid.

We now have the stories of Kean being offered a 3 year contract. This is a man with no previous managerial experience at any level and no experience of the transfer market. A man who has now been in charge of the team for 4 games in which we have under achieved and seen 3 poor performances in which we were clearly outplayed. So why the rush in making a long term appointment when Kean already has almost half the season to prove himself?

I am 100% behind the team and Steve Kean. I really hope he gets offered the job permanantly, but because he has earned it! However, like a lot of Rovers fans I am confused as to the direction the club is taking under the Rao's. Mrs Desai, sort your PR out and you can remove all the doubts and get all Rovers fans on your side. There is not one Rovers fan who wants you to fail but concerns will remain whilst the contradictory statements continue. You do not even need to appoint a PR consultant. You already have the perfect man in place, the one man every Rovers fan trusts - John Williams. Why waste all that experience and trust, especially when he is the one man who can unite every Rovers fan behind you?

Unfortunately we could "bid" for any footballer in the world. Ronaldo, Beckham, Messi, Uncle Tom Cobley and all. But it wouldn't mean they would come. Let's see who we end up with, and I bet it will be either somebody well past their sell by date or somebody nobody has heard of.

I expect my job offer to be in the post shortly !!!

very true, but remember that FA Cup ears Lineker turned down Rovers cos he thought it was a joke bid and missed out on a Prem Winners medal tht he never collected at Spuds, or Grampus 8 my Hamster.
.
No idea whether these are serious bids, or not. As you say lets see what happens by end of Jan. If they are playing with big £££s - i pray to my God (and theirs) that it is their money and not Rovers that is being put on the table. Regrettably, i have my doubts.

….the poster (LI) is either being economical with the truth or he hasn’t done his research properly ..there is a massive difference from being the 67th global business and the 67th best global small company!!
.

Forbes ranked Venky's as 67 among the 100 best global ‘small’ companies in the year 1999-2000 which is a subsidiary of the VH Group… INR 17 billion conglomerate.
.
67th global business is Hewlett-Packard with a market value of 93.08 billion
.
937 Billionaires worldwide on Forbes rich list…
No search was found for Dr B.V. Rao who founded the VH Group..
.

Placing a transfer bid is one thing, knowing it isn’t going to be successful is just misleading the fans.

Beckham wants to play for Tottenham because his Granddad and his family were/are long-time supporters ..obviously he wants to play for Spurs for the memory of his Granddad..they were very close..if anyone heard Becks World cup bid speech, would realise. Associating Venkys name with Becks is an advertising ploy methinks
.
Maradona Associating Venkys name with Hand of god is an advertising ploy methinks
.
Ronaldinho wants to go back home (Brazil) after playing most of his career in Europe..having played for some of the biggest clubs on the Planet and being one of the richest footballers of all time why would he want to up sticks to a cold/wet small Lancashire mill town…when he doesn’t need too! IMO the Venkys put feelers out knowing that Ronadinho had no intention of ever signing ….so 6m.. 10m.. 12m.. bid would be pointless…they’d run a mile if they had a chance of signing him…I could be wrong but, I don’t think so!
.

Steve Kean…I’m all for giving him a chance but, how can the Venkys talk about giving him a 1-2 year deal when he hasn’t proved anything….The more I see/hear the more I realise BRFC is just a advertising vehicle for their Chicken product globally….I really hope I’m misreading them.

5 years ago? He's only 30! . Have you not forgotten how long a certain Tugay performed for us for? . Technique never leaves a player and he would give the whole club a huge lift and all the youngsters could learn from him - Quite a big difference competing in a top AC Milan to competing in a mid table Prem side. I think he'd be a fantastic signing I really do. . How the hell are people disapointed we're being linked to Ronaldinho and Beckham? When was the last time we were linked with ANY type of big name? . and before you slag Becks off look at how many clubs round Europe are trying to sign him on loan. The lad is still class and works and trains harder then most.
Why 5 years ago? Because now he is an overweight fading star and "IF" he signed for us he would only be doing so for one last fat pay cheque!
.
Just because Tugay played till his legs wittled away, it doesnt mean that Ronaldinho would.
.
I dont think people are dissapointed with being linked with these players, Its more likely that they where hoping for a proven quality manager to be put in place and for him to make sound and realistic signings with the new investment money, instead of the pie in the sky, they dont know what they are doing, Venky clowns and there puppet- yes man Kean, talking utter rubbish.

All that Venkys are doing is telling the World that there is a Company called "VENKYS" and that they own a team in the EPL by the way If you missed it that's what Mrs Venky called the Premiership "The EPL" !!! as If it was some crap from America she was talking about! Let`s face it Guys we just don`t understand them nor they Us, until that bridge is crossed you can spend the rest of your life putting comment's on here because they mean nothing. Untill the good ship Ewood Park is in steady waters this is my last post...
The 'EPL' is the Premiership to the rest of the world billy......that is what it is known as to most people outside of the UK. We are now part of that global football world now with our new owners the Venkys and you have got to get used to that, cos its the future - like-it or lump-it......

What the hell is going on? AC Milan say they have had no approach at all by Rovers or anyone else, Ive just read Samba has stated he wants out again.

Everywhere I am going in Wigan/Chorley people are laughing at us. These owners have turned us into one big joke, and it would seem all they are after is seeing there names exposed all over the world, which I am not against as long as its positive for our club.

I fear for our club and whats more Williams has been quiet in all this its a complete joke, I wanted to believe all the reports but in my heart I know this is going to turn sour!!!

Yes they are true! they have put a bid in for him in the region of 2 mil, they decided a bid in the region of 3 mil would also be enough to pry Ronaldo away from Madrid!! One Venky clown rubbished the rumour earlier on today saying it was just speculation, but since then Captain Venky clown has been on Sky sports news saying they have tabled bids for both players and are awaiting a response.

My feelings are well known all things 'Venky' & my mind is still of the same.

Nothing but, nothing is going to come of our aspirations for our club while this 'circus' does the rounds.

Until I see stability coursing through BRFC then my eye will/is be critical.

Let's hope Kean is working closer to the ground for players that he is going to need to arrest our alarming slide & not only on the pitch ?

Two steps back before we take a step forward, I fear !!

So.. hearing the news that Ronaldinho's turned us down... can maybe Venkys et al please see how ESSENTIAL it is to have a recognised and respected established manager?
.
If we'd had, I don't know.. SHEARER, MON, or even MARADONNA FFS, we can at least sell that to a player like Ronaldinho. Some average, unknown scottish reserve coach ain't exactly inspiring to a big name footballer.

Fair comment, but when you care about something or someone and it is being used and abused by the wrong people you are obviously going to get upset and say a few words which you may or may not mean but say them anyway as a way of releasing pressure. All Rovers fans want the best for the club but at the same time dont want to see it ran into the ground by owners who are clueless and a manager who is not only useless but the only reason he is manager at all is because he is cheaper than Sam was.
