Accrington's 'Rising Star' lands another title

YOUNG Daniel Battrick showed just why he picked up Hyndburn’s Rising Star award after landing yet another kick boxing title the very next day.

The 12-year-old from Accrington earned the borough accolade for this outstanding achievements in his chosen sport.

He was presented with his award by Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman.

And the Mount Carmel pupil didn’t have to wait too long to prove just how good he was by winning the prestigious Martial Arts Illustrated British Open title 24 hours later.

“It’s been a fantastic year for Daniel and winning the Rising Star award means a lot,” said Dad Billy, who is also his coach at Fit2Fight Kick Boxing Club.

“He went to the Town Hall on the Friday night to pick up the award and the very next day he was fighting in the British Open.”

Daniel, who trains at the Accrington club five times a week, is the current British full contact kick boxing champion and has also won the English title on three occasions.

“Daniel is determined to go to the top and is looking forward to more title challenges next year,” added Battrick Senior.

Daniel was one of four Fit2Fight fighters who won medals at the British Open.

Steven Barnes won a gold medal in the men’s under 75kg class with Brandon Hargreaves winning a silver in the under 12s-40kg class while Hamayoon Kasser also won silver in the under 17s -55kg class.
