BRIAN Laws insists he is still on the lookout for new players, despite the transfer window closing until January.

Burnley didn’t make any moves on deadline day, only to fend off a substantial bid from Galatasaray for defender Andre Bikey.

There was also late interest from a Scottish Premier League side to take a fringe player on loan, but that failed to materialise before their midnight cut-off point.

The player was un-named, although I understand it is someone who has played north of the border before, which would include Brian Easton, Jay Rodriguez, Alex MacDonald, or perhaps even Kevin McDonald.

Laws preferred to keep his squad together at this point, although he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of sending out one or two who aren’t yet featuring in his first team squad when the loan window opens next week.

Equally, the Clarets boss is ready to use that avenue to add more new faces.

And the likelihood is those targets will include Premier League players who have missed out on their team’s 25-man squad.

“All Premier League clubs have now had to announce their 25-man squad so we’ll be observing those.

"There could be some real gems available out there,” said Laws, who has already brought young Chelsea midfielder Jack Cork back to Burnley on a season-long loan.

“I’m pleased with what we’ve done but we’ve not switched off.

“We’ve done a big dossier on players that we feel would be good for us if something happened.

"We’ll use money wisely and when it’s necessary.”

And Laws insisted there would not be a knee-jerk reaction to a first defeat of the season, when they went down 1-0 to Swansea on Saturday.

“We are only five games in,”

“Just because we’ve lost our first game doesn’t mean we are going to be bringing new players in to rectify it.

"We’ve got a good squad of players.”
