Burnley and Accrington Stanley players up for award

BURNLEY’S Graham Alexander and Accrington captain Andy Procter have been shortlisted in the prestigious North West player of the year award.

Alexander will battle it out against rivals such as Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney for the title of North West Premier League player of the year, which is voted for by the fans.

And Procter is in the running to land the League Two prize after impressing during Stanley’s ultimately unsuccessful push towards the play-offs.

Fans can vote for Alexander, who was the oldest outfield player in the top flight last season, and Procter at nwfootballawards.co.uk, which there is full details of the shortlist.

The winners will be revealed at the North West Football Awards ceremony in October.

A panel of expert judges, headed by PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor, will decide the winners in the other categories, acknowledging the off the pitch achievements of the North West’s clubs and celebrating the contribution that the region's businesses make to the global football industry.

Taylor said: “It’s been a great year for North West football, with many of the season's headlines made in the region.

“The players on the list have proven their dedication, their hard work and their talent.”

No but Proctor of Accy Stanley is;-), and hes obviously different league to players like Nelsen who played in the World Cup. Maybe its the criteria are that you have to be overweight, ageing, slow, unable to perform the basics of defending and take the p**s out of your own supporters and the town when you think its safe to do so. You know what I mean dont you?
