    I can't imagine Allardyce would be falling over himself to re-sign Derbyshire. Firstly, I imagine Olympiakos would likely want their money back (which I think was about 3-3.5m - more than we reportedly have.) Also, Allardyce reportedly had a big fallout with Derbyshire after blaming him for both City's goals in their late comeback against Rovers towards the end of the 08-09 season. He didn't track back and instead of taking ball into corner, he tried to go to goal and lost the ball and City went on to score. Also, I don't think he liked being played on the wing.

    Personally, whilst I don't have anything against Derbyshire, I'm not sure he's the answer to our goalscoring problems and is he any better now than when we sold him? And would he get in ahead of Kalinic (or even Roberts) in Allardyce's thinking? If not, then I doubt he would consider coming back here. He'll probably end up at somewhere like Newcastle. Still, he'd be better than Beattie or Benjani I think."

ANDRANIK Teymourian rejected Blackburn Rovers’ invitation to continue his trial during their trip to Australia in the belief it was too much of a gamble.

The Iranian midfielder was offered the opportunity of an extended trial by his former Bolton boss Sam Allardyce but, without the promise of a firm offer, has opted to explore other avenues.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands, though, the chance of any potential deal is not yet dead with Rovers staying in contact with Teymourian’s representatives.

He will explore other opportunities but, with Sam Allardyce known to be keen on him, the possibility of offering him a short-term deal has not yet been ruled out.

Both parties though felt it was best for Teymourian to remain in England while talks continued, with other clubs from abroad also interested in signing the midfielder.

The former Bolton and Fulham midfielder has struggled for first team football over the past couple of seasons but Rovers boss Sam Allardyce was willing to see if he could revive his stuttering career.

Teymourian featured in Saturday’s 3-0 friendly win at Southport and the 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield on Wednesday night but was only prepared to extend his time at Ewood if the club were definitely prepared to offer him a permanent deal.

A source close to Teymourian said: “We spoke to Sam Allardyce and the chairman John Williams.

"They did give him the chance to travel to Australia but we did not feel it would be right.

“He has plenty of offers, some in the Middle East for good money, and he couldn’t risk losing out on these opportunities by travelling to Australia for 10 days.

“He was prepared to take a drop in wages to come to Blackburn Rovers but still the club said he needed a further trial.

"He would only go to Australia if he had got an offer. We will see what happens.”

Teymourian was signed by Allardyce for Bolton in 2006 and, after an initial settling in period, enjoyed a successful two years under Big Sam’s stewardship.

His Premier League nightmare was to start though in 2008 upon signing for Fulham and, after just one Premier League appearance, was released by the Cottagers this summer.

While his fitness is understandably short, Allardyce said on Wednesday night he was hoping to resurrect Teymourian’s career and was willing to give him a further opportunity in Australia.
