WIGAN have been denied by the woodwork, but Burnley have carved out the better openings in a goalless first half. The Clarets flew out of the traps, with Graham Alexander, Martin Paterson and Wade Elliott having early efforts blocked out, while David Nugent, who has worked hard up and down the left flank, also cleared the bar with a half-chance.
When Wigan have applied the pressure, centre halves Michael Duff and Leon Cort have stayed resolute. Although, had it not been for the woodwork, there would have been little to stop Gary Caldwell breaking the deadlock with a header from a needlessly conceded corner midway through the first half.
The home fans are becoming increasingly restless as Wigan, who they booed off at half-time, edge closer to the relegtion zone, while a huge Burnley following is trying to roar the Clarets out of it.
