Blackburn Rovers keeper Brown bids to be top Drog

JASON Brown insists ‘this is my time’ as he bids to frustrate Didier Drogba & co after revealing he could easily have quit Ewood Park this summer.

Rovers’ reserve goalkeeper will get a rare chance to impress in the Premier League at home to Chelsea tomorrow afternoon, with Paul Robinson’s calf injury expected to keep him out for around a month.

Brown has made just three Premier League starts for Rovers since joining from Gillingham in June 2006 but, despite revealing he has been tempted to move for more regular football, is ready for the challenge ahead.

Brown was a wanted man this summer, with a host of Championship outfits chasing his signature but, with Mark Bunn allowed out on loan to Sheffield United, boss Sam Allardyce was determined to keep hold.

Brown said: “It has been frustrating. I wanted to play and maybe I could have left but in the summer I was injured and had just had my hernia operation. There were one or two clubs that made an enquiry but they soon put a block on that. I look at that as a positive because Blackburn want to keep me around for games like this.

“This is a great opportunity to play some games and show what I can do. I have had some highs and some lows during my time at Blackburn but this is my time.

“I am a Blackburn Rovers player and have 16 months on my contract. I am not seeing this as a shop window, I see it as doing my best for Blackburn Rovers.

“I have had to bide my time. Brad never got injured and Robbo has done very well but this is my time and I am fully focused on winning as many games as possible.”

Chelsea’s Ross Turnbull is also expected to get a rare chance at Ewood Park tomorrow, with Petr Cech and Hilario still battling for fitness, as the Blues fight for the title.

“This is our job,” said Brown of the understudy’s role. “We are aware of it and when it comes to our time we have to make the most of it and I intend to.

“I have been very fortunate to work with some very good goalkeepers and some very good staff as well.

“It is difficult because you want to be playing but I am in the best league in the world and when opportunities like this come around I get the opportunity to show millions of people what I can do.

“It is difficult to explain until you experience it though. It doesn’t go through your head you are playing in front of millions.

“The pressure and the consequences you forget, you focus on what you are doing.

“Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world. I will be playing against some of the best players in the world.

"They will be feeling a little sorry for themselves and we will try to capitalise on that.”
