BURNLEY Reserves suffered a fourth defeat in a row after conceding in either half against leaders Manchester United last night, in Owen Hargreaves' comeback game.

Joey Gudjonsson almost opened the scoring against a side who have only conceded eight goals in 13 games, but rattled the crossbar with a free kick on 15 minutes.

United seized the initiative from a set piece themselves midway through the half. Oliver Norwood swung a free kick into the box from the left touchline and fast front man Febian Brandy glanced a header past Diego Penny to break the deadlock.

Jay Rodriguez and Alex MacDonald, in his first start since a double hernia operation, both had efforts saved before the break.

But United, who withdrew England midfielder Hargreaves at half-time, doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Ben Hoskin lost possession in midfield, substitute Nicholas Ajose delivered a cross from the left and Corry Evans finished at the far post.

The Clarets dug in and second-half substitute Wes Fletcher was unlucky to have a late chance cleared off the line.
