HALF TIME: Tottenham 1 Blackburn Rovers 0

1:40pm Saturday 13th March 2010

JERMAIN Defoe's injury time goal has given Tottenham a 1-0 half time lead at White Hart Lane.

The England striker prodded home from close range after Niko Kranjcar's left wing corner was flicked on by Vedran Corluka.

David Dunn was the first to go close, after racing clear of Spurs' midfield on three minutes but seeing his shot from inside the area blocked by Sebastien Bassong.

Chris Samba was then inches away from getting on the end of Morten Gamst Pedersen's deep free-kick while Martin Olsson saw a strike blocked by Bassong.

Rovers were dealt a blow when Paul Robinson was carried off on 25 minutes, after injuring his calf, with Jason Brown replacing him between the posts.

Tottenham had their chances too though, with Roman Pavlyuchenko blazing the best of them wide from close range after impressive approach work by Gareth Bale on 16 minutes.

Bale was giving Michel Salgado a torrid time on the left and it was another bursting run from him on the half hour mark that almost broke the deadlock, as his low shot was drilled just wide of the far post.

Substitute keeper Brown did well to keep out Gael Givet's flick on 36 and then a minute later got down well to stop Jermain Defoe's low strike.
