BLACKBURN Rovers will be bidding to end a 17-match losing streak against the Premier League’s top sides when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Rovers may have gained a reputation for upsetting the more traditional big boys in years gone by, but away games against the Premier League’s current top seven have brought only nightmares in recent times.
Such is the gulf that has now developed between the haves and the have nots.
On 17 occasions Rovers have travelled with hope, but left defeated - even if they produced a creditable display in a 2-1 loss at Liverpool 11 days ago.
Not since a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa in January 2008, secured thanks to a Roque Santa Cruz goal, have Rovers secured a result.
Since then, there has been one league defeat at Villa Park, one at White Hart Lane, two at the City of Manchester Stadium, two at Old Trafford, two at Stamford Bridge, three at Anfield and three at the Emirates.
Add in two cup losses at Villa during the current campaign, and a Carling Cup defeat at Manchester United last season, and fixtures that once left Rovers chasing a scalp have since become dates to dread.
The winless run stretches back even further, to 20 games, since Rovers won at Tottenham in October 2007.
Benni McCarthy and Chris Samba scored as Mark Hughes’ side came from behind to claim all three points.
