Burnley's goal-getter Nugent looks to Wolves win

DAVID Nugent has got a win over Wolves in his sights after inspiring last night’s comeback against Stoke City.

The on-loan Burnley striker’s sixth goal of the season cancelled out Tuncay’s opener with an early second half header to earn a precious point and boost their Premier League survival challenge with nine games to go.

The Clarets remain in the bottom three, level on points with Wolves, who they face on Saturday.

And Nugent is determined to stay on the goal trail to boost Burnley’s chances of leapfrogging their relegation rivals this weekend.

“It’s a tough game against Wolves but if we win we go above them, so it would be nice to do that and get out of the relegation zone,” said the 24-year-old, who now has back-to-back goals for the first time this season after scoring in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

“I’ve only started 12 games for Burnley and I’ve got six, so it’s one in two games for me now, so I want to keep on going and score as many as I can and try to keep Burnley in the Premier League.”

But Nugent, who is on loan from bottom club Portsmouth until the end of the season, hopes it doesn’t take another half-time dressing down from manager Brian Laws to inspire the Clarets again.

“We weren’t at our best in the first half. We had too many long balls and their defence was just chewing on them,” he said.

“The gaffer gave us a bit of a rollicking and we came out in the second half and got the goal and then pushed on and tried to win the game.

“Chris Eagles had a couple of shots, I had another chance and Kev’s gone just wide, so we’ve had chances to win the game.

“In the end we had to settle for the point, which makes it a must-win game now against Wolves on Saturday.”
