New boys Salesbury snap up Rishton's Rostron

RIBBLESDALE League new boys Salesbury have swooped to sign Rishton all-rounder Richard Rostron as their professional.

The 26-year-old, who previously played as paid man for Blackrod in the Bolton Association, has decided to leave Blackburn Road in order to become Salesbury’s frst professional ahead of their debut season in the top flight of the Ribblesdale League.

Rostron claimed 35 wickets and hit 353 Lancashire League runs in a struggling Rishton team last season.

“We are delighted to have secured a good player in Richard who will bring something extra to the team and club both on and off the field,” said Salesbury’s Jason Rawson.

“We are excited by the new challenges that lie ahead and we hope Richard will play a major part in taking the club forward.”

Now then spineless whalley boy, reveal your identity? To set the record straight, Boothy asked to be dropped cos, he wasnt bowling every single game (me,me,me), even the legendary Lord Fallon doesnt bowl every game and he never sulks. Everybody wanted me to captain again this year, I didnt ask for the job so somebody must think i'm doing alright. As for Whalley not doing to well, 2 trophies in last 3 years, many clubs would be happy with that. Poor year last year (must be cos Boothy wasnt gettin a do!) but expecting better this time from me and my little gang ie Mave, Fal, Onion, Lee K, Dec, Gallers, Nicky B, etc etc. As regards losing my pal Dec to Uni, i suggest you check your facts with him b4 spouting off. In relation to not liking Boothy, if you check your records, no Ribblesdale league captain has ever given him as many 1st XI starts as I have and maybe you should also realise how many times I stopped the youngsters in the side from taking the p**s out of him! Think that covers it, except to say get your facts straight in future and i look forward to you revealing your identity.

Firsty, lets start with 'Whalley Boys'.
As Mr Palmer stated, get your facts right. But what seems to be the problem with him? He did lead them to a 20/20 title.
As for you Baby Ben, why dont you stay quiet?, as they say 'children should be seen and not heard'. Or how about you go and limp off when youve been hit a boundary. SORT YOURSELF OUT BOY!

show,s how good a captain you are when boothy gets five wkts against northen and doenst bowl at earby the day after and then for a number of weeks after that, i think boothy got fed up watching the click anyway i hope boothy show you in the rammy cup wat your missing good luck for the summer billy

Ha, 5 for against Blackburn Northern, if you remember rightly I got 5 for against them which maybe puts into perspective Boothy's 5 for. A good capt knows that its horses for courses not just who had wickets the day before!! Boothy wont be showing us in the Rammy bcos he'll be playing in the seconds, his brother who has gone to Settle also, I believe, is a far better bowler and we may be facing him.
PS Not prepared to reveal your identity yet, suggestions so far have been our ex-curator, Simbo, Flyer and Boothy himself. I personally dont think its 3 of those as i've always considered them friends who would say all of this face to face

Right Dickie i have read with interest your above comments regarding myself and my time at Station Road .All i wanted was to turn up and enjoy my Cricket and get a fair crack of the whip . This you seemed unable to appreciate . Constant mick taking and abuse will never get the best out of anyone . To try and put something back into the game ,i went on the coaching course and helped out with the youth set up many times and enjoyed it . To continue moving Whalley CC forward the club needs more involvement from members , you should not be driving people away ,as seems to be happening .Maybe you are only continuing as Captain because no one else will take it on . Fair play you have and i wish you all the best .
Dickie at least i was prepared to play 2nd team Cricket and help the juniors ,unlike yourself who refused to play in the 2nds some years ago .
All the best for 2010 and i look forward meeting up .

As I said to you many times Steven, the seconds was the place for you, but you insisted on playing for the firsts even if it meant you not having a bowl every week. You knew it, you were happy with it. As for the Mickey taking,you well know I protected you against the juniors who constantly had a pop at you. As for driving you away, I havent spoken to you since June and you can ask anyone at the club, I told them all that I hoped you would stay, play 2nd team cricket and enjoy batting and bowling every week. Judge my captaincy on what the rest of the players think, not your own prejudice and then maybe you will be nearer the mark. As regard the coaching course, the club paid for it and constant reference was made last year to your non-attendance on friday nights, not by me I might add but by the junior committee. As regards driving people away, we have lost 1 person this winter, YOU. We have so far attracted four senior players plus extra juniors. Whalley CC is on the up so dont try giving the outside world the impression of anything else but the truth.
Finally, I wish you well at Settle, time will tell whether you get the opportunities that I gave you.

Dickie Good Day .
Trust me none of the above postings have anything to do with myself whatsoever . Just had a weekend away with the Good Lady and only just seen some of this nonsense .
As i said last September , after 7 years curating at Station Road it was time to call it a day ,everything runs it's course .I had many happy days and like to think i made some reasonable wickets along the way .Not least for the visit of the Crusaders .
Good Luck for the new season apparently it will be a scorcher .Let's hope so .

Ha, I hope ur right. Indeed, the finest wickets seen in recent memory at station road, went off a bit last year but you have certainly left a good base for new guy to work from. Poor old Boothy appears bitter and twisted but otherwise the real Whalley Boys are looking forward to a good season (certainly wont be bottom 3 again). As I said earlier, didnt think it would be you, looks like the Booth has held his hand up. Hope ur not in this apparent list of people that I have driven away and that you will grace our 2nds or 3rds this year!

Howdo Rish, Well no disrespect to last years pro but he scored 300 runs in the league and took about 10 wickets, so a performing pro should make a difference. Comes with a rep of being equal to Bobby so if that pans out we should be ok (though of course many have rocked up with a big rep and fallen flat). Have signed just 1 amateur for the firsts, ex Lancs fed capt, saw him play last year, looks classy but we'll see. So yeah, quite hopeful, we won 6 league games last year without a performance from a pro, not many can do that. Gave u boys a small fright without a pro, so reason for optomism. Dec, contrary to opinion on here will be back, couple of youngsters a year older and hopefully wiser. If you cant be confident now when can you be? Just glad the rumours that Warren Hegg was joining your ranks turned out not to be true!!!

Yes the longfellow is currently coming out of hibernation and looking forward to abusing you and a few umps some more. And as for coaching i helped malc and ted run the 18s and 15s ok but i was told you were going to run the 18s but some how i never so you there so it was left for malc and ted run them with a bit help from myself .And for you saying i am whalley boy you got that one wrong as well . take care dickie boothy

I and the rest of the boys sincerely hope you do rock up in all those games (though you'll need to change ur name to Davidson to guarantee selection). As regards the 18's last year, I only took over when Malc decided he didnt want to, I wanted the job at the start of the season but he wanted to do it, soonce again u r factually incorrect. Will you be coming on friday nights coaching the juniors like our ex bowler Beefy does? The club spent a lot of money helping you get your badge. Any chance of getting your one man fan club to reveal his identity?
