Battle cry for Blackburn Rovers ahead of cup clash

BRETT EMERTON has roared ‘let’s be positive’ as he bids to lift a frustrated Ewood Park by preserving Rovers’ Wembley dreams on Wednesday night.

Blackburn Rovers’ Australian, one of the few ‘sparks’ in Saturday’s drab 0-0 draw with Stoke City, insists Rovers can upset Chelsea to keep their Carling Cup bid on track in Wednesday’s quarter final and give him the chance to erase some person cup heartbreak.

Emerton has been on a losing Rovers’ side in three semi-finals already and is desperate for the chance to finally break his hoodoo and exact revenge on Chelsea.

He said: “Definitely, everyone realises the importance of Wednesday’s game.

"If we can get a positive result there, excitement will build and the players will start to believe we can win something.

“Some of our cup runs have been very enjoyable. We’d love to go on another one again.

“To get to Wembley would be something special. I’ve had a couple of semi finals but you’re in football to win things and hopefully this is our chance.

“I don’t think we’ll need to mention that defeat in the changing rooms.

"It’s still fresh in our minds and we must not let it happen again."

Emerton accepts they have a huge task on their hands, especially after being drubbed 5-0 at Stamford Bridge in October.

But he is confident Rovers can be a different proposition this time round as they look to continue their remarkable run of results at Ewood Park during Sam Allardyce’s 11 and half-month tenure.

Emerton said: “"Obviously they're a world-class team, one of the best in Europe. We'll see what kind of team they put out.

"We'll have to see whether they rotate or if we do. But all we can do is prepare the best way possible.

"We have to approach it in a positive manner. If you try and defend against that sort of quality then eventually they'll break you down.

"Hopefully we can try to be on the front foot and cause them some problems.

"They pass and move the ball very well. On that day we sat back too deeply.

"Hopefully we can get on the front foot and force some mistakes.”

Blackburn Rovers assistant boss Neil McDonald added: “It is important because we are in the quarter final and we are two or three games from Wembley.

“It is vitally important that we give a good account of ourselves whether that be against Chelsea or anybody else.

"The teams left in are all very very strong and we are one of them strong teams so we have a chance.

“This means everything to everybody, not just the manage,r but the whole of the football club and the supporters.

"They want a trip to Wembley to see if we can win a cup and we have done it before so why shouldn’t we do it again.”

“I didn't know it would be my 200th Premier League appearance until the other day. It's another milestone for me. I've been here for quite a while now, i've enjoyed every minute. In my opinion it's a great club and I hope I've got many more appearances to come.”

Good on you Brett. You are the 'Rolls Royce' in my opinion & look forward to seeing you in the famous B&W halves for many a season to come................

Hey Jeppo. Yeh your right with that. Ok he doesn't pull tree's up but, he is a consistent performer when he is in his stride. When he had the injury I didn't see anyone come into replace what he offers?

A good solid pro who is reliable if not spectacular but, sorely missed when he is out. Remeber under Hughes? Hughes was gussing at the right back berth that he had some storming games in.

Emerton is more a less one of the last ones of the Souness era & boy it does show !!

All the same we have to keep our eye on the ball, even though I have pointed out, that even the more positive of us are finding it hard to defend some of the play at this time, but I have to go with transformation with SA.

What we cannot alter is the fan who choose's to see it from their perspective all things SA & I'm sure a lot will vote with their feet come the new 10/11 season? I just hope SA can find the ingredient that excites the fans in the future?

I'm with you in that we have to be patient & hope that all is well that end's well?

Emerton was the best player on the pitch at the weekend, gives his all every time he is picked, I see "Reedy" only got ten minutes at QPR at the weekend, he should be fit by the end of the season at that rate!! "Woody" S/A and excitement your having a laugh, he was long ball at Bolton and was long ball last year and kept us up (which I was greatfull for), this year it is his own team and I like you will wait patiently for the transformation to take place, but at the moment it must be more exciting being in "Dingle" land, goals galore home and away!!!

The thing that pi**es most people off about the long ball game is when the centre halves win every ball.If you have Gudjonnson picking it up and smashing it home nobody cares how it got there.Much as we all like to see pass and move football, players of the right calibre are hard to find,so if we can develop a nice mix we can but try.

If someone had said to me a year ago that in December 09 we would be in mid-table I would have been so relieved.

.

So far so good and better to come.

Emerton may have worked hard but he was actually out of position so many times and limited our attacking chances. In the first half he stayed around the half way line and when we went forward Chimbonda was often in front of him. He should have stayed wide and broke free alot quicker so that we had more outlets to pass the ball forward.

For me we have become very predictable and have limited out and out chances up front. We need to vary it and keep them guessing so that we actually find space.

At set pieces why play the ball to Samba all the time yes it works but try something different maybe Nzonzi?

Tugay hasnt been replaced and we still need a midfielder whom can distribute the ball with a good eye for a pass. Andrews is not this type of player for sure

On Saturday we had a fairly strong bench and we should have been able to change the game but we didnt. Fair enough we lost Dunn but If you start one up front and you are predictable you will have few chances to win the game.

Lol PwBburn........I can dream I guess? :)

We will see in the not to distant future I guess? I just feel that with BRFC being strapped for cash that SA will have his hands tied as to which player he can bring in? We all know that quality of the highest order cost a fair bit of $'s

We can bring in potential, such as Nzonzi who I feel will become a quality player(with a little luck) & then we will lose him to the highest bidder? Every player in these days qoutes ' ambition' to match their own thus they fcuk off to the big clubs. Look at Bentley who had it all here & could have gone on to help BRFC attract a better quality player?

We are where we are due to the nature of the ever greedy money eating monster that is the Prem League & for a player to be turning down 25k+ is astounding to go & sit in the reserve's at a big club for 40k+, for instance?

I know what you mean though regards 'Goals galore' with the dingles but, BRFC see Prem survival as paramount & some of the play we ahve witnessed is 'sore' to say the least...........

But on we go with the club in our hearts hoping that we will turn the corner? Don't hold your breath though !! :)

Just a thought not stamped in stone..

WOODY:When Iread you post I imagine you perched on a rock, elbow on thigh and forehead resting on clenched fist, from this position you expound such wisdom with a sincerity that could only come from a died in the wool Rovers fan.I would hope that one day I could match such prose unfortunatly I can only type with one finger.

Oh Eddie your a star mate, along with many on here :)

Your right in that I possibly do sit as you suggest all things our club.

It isn't that I don't see the reality of all things(I'm unsure if my reality is that of the same as others all things Blues) but, one thing is, we all wish to see our club holding it's head up in true BRFC fashion & all these posters cannot be wrong with this particular footy we are witnessing at the moment?(in the main)

SA will not change the template he as set out for the duration of his tenure with BRFC which brings me to my pose as you suggest & I have to go with my heart at this time cause if I don't my head will be heavy.

I seen a post on here the other day refering to times gone past & it brought a small lump to my throat, simply because they was such good day's for me & I was non critical all things BRFC. I just used to love attending with the 6000 or so(more should we play a big club). Of course the Jack & Dalglish days changed our perception for a few years but, the reality is we are a small town club punching well above our weight & the reality is that we are now in the midst of it, attempting to keep the dream alive for our famous old club.

For all it's faults(BRFC) in the big bad world of footy today, only the passion I feel for my club keeps me attending on a regular basis. Should I become sceptical in my view, then my friend, it is safe to say I will turn my back on it & this would be a sad day for I considering as you say 'We are dyed in the wool blue'.

Our(my) 34 years of attending is something not to be sniffed at(hell, I haven't even had a women for that amount of time!!) Your right, I love my club dearly & always will come rain or shine, This is the price we pay for a devotion, I guess?

Your a wise man Eddie as your post's always suggest & a great view to boot & should you wish to replicate my pose then happy days :)

Hey Jeppo :)
