Nelson coach driver is world champion stock car racer at weekends

A COACH driver who ferries passengers around Pendle by day and races stock cars at weekends has been crowned World Champion.

Micky Brennan put his foot down to storm to victory in the British Stock Car Association (BriSCA) F2 World Championship.

It was a double delight for Micky, of Halifax Road, Nelson, who clinched the title at Buxton Raceway on his 21st birthday.

The former Mansfield High School pupil said he now intends to retain the title next year before progressing to the association’s F1 level in the future.

Micky, who works for his family’s firm C&S Coaches, beat off stiff competition in the form of stock car racers from across the globe.

The speed demon said he bided his time in the 25-lap race before finally racing into the lead during the 13th time around the track.

He was watched by his dad David, mum Lorraine, and sister Emma, 17, who have supported him since he started racing at the age of 10.

Micky said: “It was amazing to win, especially on my 21st birthday. There are other lads just as good as me, but it was my day.”

The young racing driver boasts an impressive record, having previously enjoyed success in the junior ranks competing in mini stock cars.

Local businessman David Fishwick, who runs an LDV franchise in Colne, has sponsored Micky for a number of years.

He said: “It’s fantastic. Micky’s a really down to earth, nice lad. He’s worked really hard and deserves everything he gets.

“I’ve sponsored a stand at Burnley FC and they’ve been promoted to the Premier League and Micky’s World Champion – maybe it’s the midas touch.”
