ACCRINGTON Stanley are hopeful of signing a striker on a long-term loan from a League One club in the next few days.
Stanley, who play their first pre-season friendly at Maidstone United tomorrow, currently have only two forwards – Paul Mullin and Michael Symes – at the club.
They have denied reports linking them with Exeter forward Steve Basham but are in negotiations to make what they hope will be their key striker signing of the summer.
“It is a striker from a League One club, but I don’t really want to reveal his identity till everything is finalised,” said boss John Coleman, who saw Walsall hijack his bid to sign defender Mark Hughes earlier in the week.
The Reds have already signed Luke Joyce, Dean Winnard and Michael Symes this summer and all three could figure when Stanley face Maidstone at Ashford Town’s Homelands ground tomorrow at 3pm.
Stanley, who have been at an army camp in Colchester this week, are not expected to play any trialists in the game.
