BURNLEY are believed to be closing in on Hamilton Academical left back Brian Easton, after Wolves hijacked their bid to sign team-mate James McCarthy.
The Clarets were ready to offer £800,000 for 21-year-old Easton, a week after the Scottish Premier League side revealed the Premier League newcomers had made an enquiry for McCarthy.
The 18-year-old midfielder now seems unlikely to be heading to Turf Moor after Championship title winners Wolves offered £1million up front and the same figure again in add-ons.
But Easton is open to a move to East Lancashire.
“I’m thrilled that Burnley are interested in me,” said the Scotland Under 21 international.
“I don’t know what will happen but the chairman, Ronnie MacDonald, has always said that if a big move came up he would not stand in my way.
“There have been a lot of lads heading south recently, Steven Fletcher being the latest last week when he went to Burnley.
“It’s every player’s dream to play at the highest level.”
Meanwhile, former Paris Saint Germain striker Fabrice Pancrate was expected to join up with the squad for training today after travelling from France for a trial.
