Two East Lancashire golfers will continue their bid to qualify for the Open Championship today.
Clitheroe Golf Club’s assistant professional Ben Scott starts local final qualifying at Western Gailes in Scotland after progressing through the regional qualifying stage at Pleasington two weeks ago.
The 26-year-old from Burnley has never played in the Open and must finish in the top four of the 96-man field, which includes the likes of Fred Couples and Brad Faxon, to reach this year’s event at Turnberry.
Local final qualifying, which is played over 36 holes and finishes tomorrow, will also include Brockhall-based Harry Proos.
He also progressed through regional qualifying at Pleasington and is in action at Kilmarnock’s Barassie course, where he will face players including Jose Maria Olazabal and Per-Ulrik Johansson.
