BLACKBURN Rovers are still cautious about a move for Italian striker Christian Vieri - even though it has been confirmed that the 35-year-old has now linked up with their pre-season training camp in Austria.
Sources close to both Rovers and the player had last week suggested that Vieri had not been invited to Austria for a trial, but Allardyce has since taken up the option to assess the fitness of the former Milan, Inter, Juventus and Atletico Madrid hit man during the next few days.
Vieri is without a club after being released by Atalanta and, although he has never played in the Premier League, speaks fluent English after spending much of his childhood in Australia.
But Rovers still need to be convinced that the experienced former Italian international, whose status is likely to command a sizeable wage, remains capable of making an impact at the highest level.
It is understood that, contrary to reports, Rovers are not chasing ex-Newcastle forward Mark Viduka as they continue to look at a number of strikers.
With a couple of British-based targets likely to be difficult to acquire, Rovers are currently concentrating their efforts on the foreign market as they attempt to bring in a top quality replacement for the departed Roque Santa Cruz.

We have nothing to lose by inviting him for a weeks training though. BFS is no fool (unlike Ince), and wont sign an unfit player.

Am i right in thinking the transfer budget was zero for the upcoming season. Santa 15m plus add ons Derbs 3m Thats 18 mill surely sam was going to get at least 5 mill regardless of who left. When we sell players for big numbers all the cash is never used and seems to dissapear. If it is keeping the club going fair enough.

Has beens!!!! Luis figo? hahahaha!! I've heard Gordon Banks is looking for a new club whenever Robinson has had enough! Mark Atkins could maybe do a job in the centre of the park after in the Tugay role. You're an embarrassment. The reason why all the transfer money leaves the club is because when you buy the players Walkers' families businesses owns the rights to them. Hence, the money leaking out of the back door and never being put back in to buy new players. Or for that matter to go and look for young players. I'll await the first smart answer regarding 'sisters' 'mothers' '6 fingers' etc.... all rather boring, but on the other hand quite satisfying. Did your mother never tell you; If you can't say something sensible, then don't say anything at all.
