Burnley fans in bid to be top 10 shareholders

CLARETS fans are on course to become a top 10 private shareholder in the Turf Moor outfit, a supporters trust AGM has been told.

Former Burnley MP Peter Pike, the chairman of the Clarets Trust, says the organisation now has 89 shares, making it currently the 12th largest shareholder not on the board.

Mr Pike said: “Our aim remains to take that figure up to at least the 100 share mark and put us in the top 10.

“The increase in shares we bought during the last year went specifically to improve the accommodation for the disabled supporters.

“We are pleased, and proud, to have paid part of this cost and enable this work to have taken place.”

Plans are also being formulated, via a bid to the town’s Stocks Massey Fund, to produce a series of display boards detailing Burnley FC’s history.

The trust also intend to continue sponsorship of rising star Jay Rodriguez for the forthcoming season.

Another beer festival is being planned by the trust at the Bridge Inn for later in the year and new members are being sought.

Take your point Costa. In reply to Morst (best derby atmosphere)I think you should check your facts about that day. I was there and the actual gate was only in the 20's. Are you seriously suggesting that there were less than 10,000 Burnley fans there on the day? I commented to a friend on the day that I had expected a better turn out from Rovers. I think there may be a little fantasy going on here. I don't think Rovers at that time could muster 15,000 for a home match. Either way the total capacity at that time for visitors at the Turf was less than 10,000 (I think)and there were certainly no Rovers fans in the Burnley section.

I think it was almost 30,000 the gate. I went in Rovers half of longside at 1.30pm for 3.00pm kick off and as I passed turnstile Policeman said shut those gates now we are already over capacity in here. So the rest had to go somewhere.

We had the full Cricket Field stand also and then when we scored much of the open end went up - queue much fun!
15,000 easy that day. Better turnout - your having a laugh Houseboy - they were fighting in lumps in open end after we scored!

p.s. for the record the average Clarets home gate that season was 11k and that included the near 30,000 vs Rovers!

i can back that up, me and my brother were the last to be admitted in through our turnstile on that long side.

cops then directed rovers fans to the open end....loads of scrapping.
