Blackburn Rovers boss slaps £40m price tag on Roque Santa Cruz

Blackburn Rovers boss slaps £40m price tag on Roque Santa Cruz Blackburn Rovers boss slaps £40m price tag on Roque Santa Cruz

SAM Allardyce has put a £40million price tag on Roque Santa Cruz after claiming that is the amount at stake in the forthcoming Premier League relegation battle.

The Rovers boss has again warned Manchester City off their pursuit of the Paraguayan striker and insists it is a “certainty” Santa Cruz will be remaining at Ewood Park this season.

The Eastlands outfit have so far seen three bids rejected for Santa Cruz, the latest being in the region of £16m, but Allardyce warns they are still nowhere near Rovers’ own valuation.

He said: “The bottom line is, we don't want to sell Roque Santa Cruz.

“For me, we won't be selling Roque Santa Cruz, that's a certainty.

"The money is no good to me at this stage of the season.

"Roque Santa Cruz is more valuable to me and more valuable to Blackburn Rovers than the money, whoever might offer.

“There's £40m at stake [to stay] in the Premier League per year and I don't think anyone is going to offer us £40m for Roque Santa Cruz.

"The value of Roque as a player for us is far greater than what anyone could give us in terms of money."”

Manchester City have stunned the world of football this month with a £100m bid for Brazilian ace Kaka as they look to buy their way to the top of the game.

While Craig Bellamy is the latest big-money buy joining Mark Hughes’ revolution, Rovers continue to resist all attempts to prise away their talisman.

Santa Cruz himself has stated his desire to join up with Hughes again this month on several occasions but Allardyce has refused to budge in his stance on the situation.

When asked though if he would be happy to take the £40m, Allardyce added: “I think I would, yes.

“I think I'd have to. I don't think the board would take too kindly to me saying 'No, I'm still not taking that'."”

Rovers and City are believed to have kept contact throughout the last few weeks as Mark Hughes’ side looked for ways to make their efforts for Santa Cruz end in success.

A lack of an obvious replacement available in the transfer market at the moment though has heightened Rovers resolve to hang on to the striker, as they realise the importance of maintaining their Premier League status.

Santa Cruz will be allowed to leave this summer though if a club offers enough to trigger a release clause on his contract, believed to be around £20m.

Kaka not going to City, reminds me of when Keane said no to Rovers. Perhaps he is going to United. Now that would be funny.

I have to agree with Sam on this one, stand firm Rovers. He can only leave for £18m in the summer anyway and prem survival is our top priority. If he bangs in a few goals between now and the end of the season i'd bet United or Pool would come in for him. What he deserves. I think to go to City would be an insult to Rovers!!!

Right winger in the next few days Sam.

Come on Rovers!!!!! We look a totally different side under Sam.

and if he has a poor season, like in my eyes he is then his value will drop.

the only thing we can do is say to him "look roque, you aint going anywere until the end of the season, and the only way we will let you go then is if you play your heart out until the season over, we will then let you go with our blessing"

I agree although I reckon we could get 20 for him. Regardless of whether he goes or not, this puts his profile up and indirectly the clubs which is obviously good for us. Thats what i think Ac Milan are doing with kaka. "look at our player, people want him, he must be good, come see our team and watch us on Sky Sports and T'tanta." Although i doubt they have t'tanta in Italy. Or that annoying bird off bb advertising it.

Maybe Sam is just trying to squeeze every penny he can out of City? I'm sure 20-22 million would do it.

What ever next? - Newsflash from the LET - David Bentley leaves Rovers!!!!!

Who would we like to see on the right wing boys and girls? Haven't really heard any transfer rumors recently as to the potential right winger which we desperately need

I agree with Sam 100 percent. Not only that, but look at City. How desperate are they getting? To sell Cruz to what now amounts to a serious relegation rival would be the worst piece of business ever. If we wait till summer then we can get at least £15m as teams like Villa,Everton etc may well join the queue for his services. With that amount of money at his disposal, Sam will bring in some quality replacements.
Anyone going to Sunderland - £15quid a tkt is great value providing we put a decent side out. We have a great chance with the cup this season.

French-based aces Jean Calve and Babacar Gueye are training with Blackburn Rovers.

24-year-old Calve is a full-back from Nancy, whilst Gueye, 22, is a striker with Metz.

Calve comes in from Nancy, and it appears Blackburn have moved ahead of Stoke and Lorient in the chase to sign him.

Calve confirmed last week that all three clubs were interested, but he is now in Lancashire looking to impress manager Sam Alladryce.

"With Calve we will wait until the weekend," confirmed Nancy's general manager Nicolas Holveck.

Metz have also confirmed they have allowed Senegal forward Gueye to travel to Blackburn.

Gueye will stay with Rovers for the rest of the week in a bid to win a move to Ewood Park.

Nah, only if Blackburn were gauranteed premiership survival would you do this.

From a Risk point of view, Sam's comments are spot on. Hughes will still want him in summer.

He wont be leaving Ewoiod for less than £18m in the summer. I've heard thats the only clause in his contract, and if doenst want to play for us and no one wants to give us the full amount i'm sure Sam will put the lad in the reserves.

Message to the Lancashire Telegraph -
Why do you keep deleting posts off these forums?

I can understand the ones with foul language and abuse, but what really winds me up is the lack of consistency.

Burnley fans come on here, posting silly, senseless things about Rovers and their fans. They are obviously written by mindless morons with no wit, intelligence, or even a basic grasp of English.

As soon as there is a retaliatory comment from Rovers (which are generally well articulated and amusing) they are quickly deleted.
Even if they are free from foul language.

Do you feel the need to protect the inferior? Very noble. Hardly fair though is it?

I've also seen you allow comments stating that 9/11 was a "Jewish conspiracy", yet you remove posts that say people from Burnley are incestuous?? Unbelievable.

Who else is banging the door down for RSC ?.....NOBODY...!!!
Not even newspapers looking for gossip.
So why the stupid 40 million, price dont get me wrong i like the bloke, but i am starting to think he could be a one season wonder.
We could end up licking our wounds on this one,16-18-20 million is a lot of money to rovers, and for what we gave for RSC,thats a lot of money back.
You cannot say we carnt find somebody else, and still have change to spend in the summer or even now.
What if between now and the end of the season he does nothing to impress, and city go looking elsewhere thinking ,Glad we didnt buy him,Lets be honest he hasnt set the world on fire at rovers this season (I know he has been injured),But it should be about what is good for rovers,And its a lot of money.
I do think if he stays,He will not put that much in to us staying up,There are players now, who will put more effort in than RSC...I will stand by GREED IS A FUNNY THING

Maybe the editor is a Claret!

It is well-known that some of the senior staff in BBC Sport, and some London-based tabloid journos, are Clarets, which might explain why Rovers are nearly always last on MOTD (unless playing a top four side) and why some of the press have it in for us.

"The Stars go Blue" by Ryan Adams for me.

"Where do you go when your Lonely,
Where do you go when your a Blue,
I'll Follow you,
Where The Stars go Blue,
Where the Stars go Blue"

Great guitar riff too!
