THERE was something immensely satisfying by seeing the Aussies pummelled by India on Tuesday morning.

Maybe it's because they've been such a dominant force for the last couple of decades that makes it so sweet.

Or perhaps is because as a "Pom", I've been on the wrong end of so many drubbings it's great to see the colonials getting a taste of their own medicine.

A nation who, at the very mention of their players' name, could have a side beaten before they even took the field look a very sorry bunch indeed.

Gone are the "freaks" (and I mean that in the nicest possible sense) Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Adam Gilchrist. Justin Langer, Brad Hogg and Stuart MacGill have also departed and into their place has come less than adequate replacements. But in fairness to those guys, who could replace the likes of Warne etc?

But the new guys look way short of the mark. Stuart Clark isn't a bad bowler but if Peter Siddle is the best of the rest - Kevin Pietersen must be licking his lips.

Leg spinner Cameron White was hardly impressive in and Shane Watson still looks like a poor man's Andrew Flintoff.

You would expect Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden to rediscover their touch at some stage during the series and for Michael Clarke to continue his ascent into the league of Australian greats, but I would suggest that the Aussies have more to think about ahead of the Ashes.

The English look re-born under Pietersen and with Matthew Hoggard and Simon Jones (if and when he is ever fit again) waiting in the wings, England look a real force to be reckoned with.

So that's the mockers put on England, get your money on the Aussies for a clean sweep!
