Aston Villa are expected to come back with a fresh bid for Brad Friedel in the next 24 hours, according to sources in the Midlands.

Villa had an opening offer for the 37-year-old rejected last week, but their manager Martin O’Neill is believed to be ready to up the ante.

When asked about Friedel’s situation, Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince, who is flying with the rest of the squad from Germany to Portugal today for the second leg of Rovers’ pre-season tour, said: “The good thing about being away is you don’t see the papers and you don’t hear all the rubbish that is going on back home.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’ve not heard anything and I’m just focusing on the next few days before we play again in Portugal.

“Whatever will be, will be.”

Meanwhile, Stoke City are reported to be interested in signing Aaron Mokoena, although the Premier League newcomers have yet to make a formal bid.

And Rovers have dismissed stories linking them with a £4m move for the Olympiakos full-back Vasilis Torosidis.

No problem Mr O'Niel - The fee is £12m and as we know with Barry you insist on the fee being met first before trying to unsettle our keeper.

As usual, telegraph is way too late with the story, useless.
Bad move by ince, this tells all the others they can go even if they are under contract. He should of held firm.
Its scary that nothing is happening on the buying front either.

The departure of Friedel makes it a very sad day. A tough man to replace. We would have shipped a lot more goals without him. The back four will have to sharpen up their act now - unless Ince knows about a brilliant shot-stopper everyone else has overlooked. Best of luck to Brad who should get a friendly welcome when he comes to Ewood with Villa.

Carlos Villanueva will complete his move to Blackburn next week, according to his current employers.

Reports on Friday revealed that Rovers were keen on taking the Audax Italiano midfielder to Ewood Park on a season-long loan deal, with the obtaining of a work permit presenting the only potential obstacle.

However, with both sides expecting the formalities to be completed without a hitch the Audax president, Valentin Cantergiani, claims the 22-year-old will be on his way to England in the next few days.

"It will be completed next week," Cantergiani said on Cooperativa radio station.

"There are some details to finalise, but there is an agreement with Blackburn Rovers."

Robinson could not tie Friedel's boot laces. A disaster - what is the point of a new contract if you can't say NO?
Starting to worry that if there is too much change in players after losing Hughes and his team we could suddenly be in a relegation scrap by mid October. We have seen it all before.

"Paul Robinson is on his way to Ewood Park after a frantic round of transfer activity. The England international will look to revive his national team career after deciding to leave Tottenham Hotspur in a £3.5m deal. He will become the Rovers number one, succeeding Brad Friedel, who is Aston Villa-bound for £2.75m."

Stoke want Mokoena for 2M. I told everyone we could get 2M for him and i was ridiculed :P
