BLACKBURN Rovers chairman John Williams has admitted the club are currently in talks with two separate transfer targets and they hope to make some progress over the next few days.

“We are in dialogue with clubs regarding two midfield players identified by Paul Ince,” said Williams.

Ince is still planning to take a closer look at the Ecuador midfielder Segundo Castillo but, knowing he cannot afford to squander any of his transfer kitty on potentially risky signings, he won’t make a move for the player unless he gets an opportunity to see him at the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany.

“He’s a player who was brought to Paul’s notice by agents,” said Williams.

“Paul has done research but feels he cannot commit to this signing without the benefit of seeing the player.

“Rovers have not pulled back from any position. We have never agreed to the transfer, let alone a fee.

“Nevertheless, the player is of sufficient interest for us to proceed in the manner we have suggested.”

One player who definitely doesn’t appear to be Ewood bound, contrary to speculation elsewhere, is the MK Dons midfielder Keith Andrews.

Williams added: “Keith was Paul’s captain at MK Dons. At our first meeting (following his appointment) Paul said he was a good player but was not prepared to recommend we make a bid to MK Dons, particularly as he hadn’t been able to assess our squad.

“Since then the matter has never been discussed between us, and we have certainly not contacted, let alone agreed anything, with MK Dons.”
