But did any rovers fan expect anything different from this incompetent fool? I agree players should have much more respect for the officials but they drive the players to distraction. some obvious mistakes by the linesman on the main stand side.

let's get a grip ok so the rovers were disapointing missed a hatful of chances but if you look at it we are a point nearer where we need to be as sparky says the international break has done us again so maybe there is a valid excuse as the games that have gone on midweek and pointless meanlingless friendlies but wait a minute we have picked up a point in the premiership away from home which is hard and we have not dropped any places and it is probably now worse for those directly below us villa were utter **** again and more importantly they are now really under pressure after Carew's injury today and if you see Man. City are already on there holidays cos they have again been **** at the end of the day 7 points behind there is still a chance of 5th place and uefa cup footie also with everton also having a sticky patch at the moment there is still a chance the only team who could nick that 5th spot is pompey and with defoe firing on all cylinders that will be a tough game and will probably determine where we end up but there are still a lot of points to be had and looking at the run in apart from L'pool, Man.Utd, the rest of the games are winnable and with points a few end of season victories we stand a good chance of uefa cup qualification.

Plenty of thinking time on the long drive back from Reading. Some sobering realism. We just haven't got enough players of genuine class. You can only go so far on 'mediocrity' no matter how well organised or motivated. Hughes is right, this squad needs 'freshening-up'. Would hope this with the supposed £10m available and the off-load of some players who aren't quite there, Hughes may be able to bring in 3 class acts and, hopefully, a couple of bargains that he's renowned for.

John, any regular visitor on this site knows your correct in what you say. If Rovers win they are the best thing since sliced bread. If they lose, it's because the ref was crap or the opposition were lucky.
You have only got to look at "Rovers Girl's" post to realise what a mix up lot they are.

I was at the Reading game yesterday and yes I was disappointed with a 0-0 draw but in all honesty, it was not the worst performance of the season!!! ( Villa match ) Referee Mark Battenburg showed us once again why he should not be refereeing Premiership football.

We are not consistent enough to qualify for europe. Unless the teams around us start to falter, think Pompey might beat us to the punch.
We need two strikers on form and banging in the goals. Roque as done the biz. Unfortunately after a great last season Benni as not got going this one.
With our budget we are not going to get world class players. We have to be realistic. Sparky does a great job getting good players for a bargin price.
Even if we don't qualify for Europe I think it as been a great season. We have been in the top half for the majority of the time. The Cups have been the only disappointment.
Hopefully the strikers will all get going next season.

With six-pointers against Fulham and Reading to come, Arsenal and Newcastle away, Tottenham at home it must be great to know that your season's not over yet. At least you've got the comfort of knowing that the three points away at Derby are a banker on the last day. Or are they?

I'll take it from the lack of any specific objections that you agree with the rest of what was written.

Furthermore, Rovers have had the "you'll be going back down again next season" observation levelled at us since we came back up in 2001. Since that time we've won a cup, got to the semis three times (to be knocked out by the eventual winners) and qualified for Europe three times.

In comparison, Reading had to record their highest ever league placing in their 137 year history to finish above Rovers for the one and only time . Furthermore, following that lofty acheivement and despite having the funds and the opportunity, your club was so lacking in ambition that they couldn't even muster themselves to compete in the Intertoto this season. Is that because you would have been fighting over who would finished bottom with Derby?

Who knows, give it another 137 years and you might finish above again.
