Full-time: Blackburn Rovers 4 Bolton Wanderers 1

BENNI McCarthy slammed home two penalties as Rovers claimed a Lancashire derby victory against Bolton at Ewood Park.

Rovers took the lead after being awarded a 23rd minute penalty when Mark Clattenburg judged Gretar Rafn Steinsson to have tripped Dunn inside the box.

McCarthy fired the spot-kick straight down the middle.

Before half-time, Roque Santa Cruz headed inches wide.

Within five minutes of the half-time interval, Bolton drew level when a Matthew Taylor free-kick fell to Kevin Davies on the edge of the six-yard box, and he fired a low shot past Brad Friedel at the second attempt.

Kevin Nolan then almost gave Wanderers the lead, but was denied by a fine save from Friedel.

Rovers retook the lead in the 65th minute when Gary Cahill hacked down Dunn just inside the Bolton box, and McCarthy rammed his second spot-kick straight down the middle.

Five minutes later, David Bentley extended the home side's lead with a far post header from Dunn's inch-perfect cross.

In stoppage time, Rovers wrapped it up with a fourth. Jason Roberts crossed from the left and Morten Gamst Pedersen stole in at the far post to score.
