Full-time: Derby County 1 Blackburn Rovers 2

3:33pm Sunday 30th December 2007

BLACKBURN Rovers secured only their second league win in 10 games - but they had to come from behind at Pride Park.

Derby took the lead in the 27th minute courtesy of Matt Oakley, who fired into the roof of the net after racing onto a neat lay-off from Giles Barnes.

But Brad Friedel then saved a penalty from Steve Howard, which was awarded for a foul by Ryan Nelsen on Kenny Miller, and that proved the spark for a Rovers revival.

A minute later, the outstanding Roque Santa Cruz pounced to score his 14th goal of the season, slotting home from close range after Lewis Price could only parry Benni McCarthy's initial shot.

And three minutes later, David Bentley then fired Rovers in front, the England midfielder dispatching a low 25-yarder into the bottom corner.

After that, Rovers had countless chances to wrap the game up but Price denied both McCarthy and Santa Cruz, and another Bentley effort cannoned back off the base of the post.

good in spells, not so good in others...

but we got the 3 points and thats the main thing.. we are only 6 points off top six so not far behind...

benni needs a goal or 2 to lift him.. think his problem is he has not scored for a bit...

we need to put a run together now, 3 points v sunderland are much needed.. but again it will be a hard game.. no easy games in the premiership.

bennie would do better if he stopped waving his arms in the air and stopping everytime he gets the slightest bump, Usually whilst the other team is than counterattacking against us.
Also his decision making is abysmal. In the last attack towards the end of the game with olsen overlapping he gave the most pathetic pass ever when he should have put him clear through. He is good when we play well but very poor when we are struggling.
I think we should keep roberts and get rid of mccarthy.
Also let savage go (past his best now) , and need to get a tugay replacement as dunns not up to it.

aaah, what was nerlsen thinking today givin that penalty, he was out of sorts all match, kiz had a good game so leave him, think nelsen needs a rest! mccarthy should have scored on two obvious occasions, he was awful, he's obviousley still affected that his move to chelsea in the summer didnt happen...

Roberts will be off in the transfer window. bennis head is down, thats why he is not playing well,

Roberts is not good enough for us.

Benni is not helped by so called fans having a go at him. if he was to get 15 goals this season u will be up his arse. he is on 9 already.

Roberts has every right to ask for a transfer when he isnt given a chance when bennie is playing so poorly for weeks. You are right , he may not be good enough , but he puts in a lot more effort and is more of a team player (as seen v fulham)
Bennie , even when he was scoring last season , was a lazy get. Without the scoring he is totally worthless , no effort , poor passing. How many times did he have space and produced no sort of pass and the move broke down?
compare that to roque who , even when not scoring earlier in the season , was all effort and rarly gave the ball away.Bennie might have 9 , but not many in the prem league.
time to get rid and replace.
Someone has to say the truth , bennies been rubbish for weeks now.

At last, a genuine sign that confidence might again be felt in the team's ability. This confidence - both by the team AND us fans - is still far from strong in either case, but the last two games have produced moments that have caused genuine hope for the remainder of the season.
It is, of course, too late to finish in the top 6 - but top 10 is still a faint possibility, if the team continues to show the spirit they did - in more than a few brief moments - against Manchester City and Derby.
Notwithstanding, we could have benefited by having Samba in the centre of the back!
McCarthy is an enigma. He could be considered a genuine threat - to Rovers and the opposition! I don't envy Sparky's responsibility, as regards McCarthy's selection. Maybe Derbyshire SHOULD be inserted now? It's going to happen, why not now? The lad deserves it, surely?

First game I've seen this season. The game wasn't a classic but it's still 3 points. I realised today why Derby are bottom of the Premiership. Stan "the turnip"Ternent is on the coaching staff. He couldn't do it in the Championship so what chance has he got in the top flight. I feel sorry for Derby County./

Not exactly a stylish win but three points is three points whichever way you look at it. I was actually worried about Rovers in this game bacause I seem to recall so many times in the past The Blues getting victories at the bigger clubs and then getting beat by the teams propping up the league so to get a win is a fine result.

I think Hughes certainly needs to strenghthen the squad in January, although I don't think selling players is the key, the board need to back Hughes or find he will only put up with it for so long. I think the midfield needs to be looked at, maybe a move for Matthew Taylor is not out of the question, he can play in the centre and on the left, so could challenge Gamst for his spot, and with his current form could do with a kick up the backside, also a possible loan mobe for a few of the tottenham younsters, Jamie O'hara looks a fantastic prospect in midfield, as does Adel Taarabt and Hossam Ghaly. Defensive cover is another area that needs to be looked at, again possible loan deals may be enough, with another tottenham youngster in Phil Ifil looking a strong prospect.

Overall their is work to be done in the transfer window and if their is one man that can work absolute magic in the transfer market it is Mark Hughes, I have complete faith.
Up the Blues.

Sissoko is a good shout but I wouldn't go for McGeady, he's a poor man's Duff. I've heard that we're going for a Bulgarian striker and a South African midfielder. I'm sure Hughesie knows what he's at, he's done it before. I'd still like to keep hold of Savage at least until the end of the season as Dunn's not quite there yet, it's Tugay's last season and Mokoena isn't a week-in, week-out player. I'd like to see Keith Treacy get a game to see if he can make it, he can't be any worse that MGP and would surely be hungrier.

I think we have the best goalkeeper in the league and in Bents the best player in the world. We hammered a very good Derby side today, they will cause a few problems to a few top sides. I think we will finish top four no problem, probably top two. (Excuse me pass me another line) I'm just like the rest of you think we are great and we are sh1t. We beat Derby for gods sake we have'nt got a hope of finishing in the top half. Obviously wubberduck was'nt there today or he would have seen it for hmself, we were awful. I think it's time we realised we are just not good enough to challenge the top half. We are just a mediocre Premiership club with limited resources and few fans. Avoiding relegation will be good enough for us. Lets just hope Scumley don't get promoted. I tell you what they have more chance of coming up than we have of staying up, we are sh1t.

Goodness me, with fans like you TRUE ROVER, who needs enemies??
It's a bad run, we all know we need to replace certain players, but only 2 or 3, no more than that.
I remember watching teams like Oxford, Plymouth, Southend, Barnsley etc etc roll us over. Thats when we were S***. We are now a progressive premiership club with no or little debt with a number of players coveted by other clubs.
Go and watch Burnley TRUE ROVER, although I suspect you may actually be a burnley fan in disguise!!
