ROVERS defender Darragh Lenihan has been left out of the Republic of Ireland squad for Thursday night's Nations League clash with Wales but Burnley trio Kevin Long, Stephen Ward and Jeff Hendrick are all included.

Martin O'Neill has also called up Jon Walters who is on loan at Ipswich from the Clarets for the clash.

Lenihan made his international debut in the summer against the USA and has been an ever-present for Rovers in their Championship campaign so far this season. But the 24-year-old is not in the 26-man squad for the fixture.

Lenihan's Rovers teammate Derrick Williams misses out with a foot injury while Burnley's Robbie Brady is also out injured.

Harry Arter has also been left out of the squad amid reports of a spat with assistant manager Roy Keane.

The Bournemouth midfielder, currently on loan at Cardiff, was included in the provisional squad, but did not make the final cut amid speculation that he had pulled out having played the full 90 minutes of his club's 3-2 Premier League defeat by Arsenal on Sunday.

Manager Martin O'Neill admitted last month that he and striker Jonathan Walters had a difference of opinion with Keane before the friendly against the United States in June.

O'Neill was due to speak to the media on Monday afternoon following the squad's first training session at Abbotstown.
