AFTER a goalscoring introduction to life at Turf Moor Matej Vydra is hoping for a Premier League debut for the Clarets tomorrow - and the chance to renew acquaintances with Alexis Sanchez.

Vydra was a youngster at Udinese when Sanchez was scoring the goals in Serie A that eventually earned him a move to Barcelona.

Now the pair are both in the Premier League and while Vydra is looking to earn a starting spot in the Burnley side, Sanchez is trying to force his way back into Jose Mourinho’s plans at Manchester United.

But Vydra insists the Chilean is one of the best players he’s ever played with and although they’ve not been in contact recently, he’s hoping they could reunite over dinner - once the battle at Turf Moor is over.

“I was with him at Udinese about eight years ago so it will be nice to see him. He’s a very good player,” Vydra said of Sanchez.

“When I saw him for the first time on the pitch I’d never seen a better player. He’s so strong on the ball and without the ball he’s really good.

“I haven’t seen him for eight years because he went to Barcelona and I was over here. Hopefully, one day, we can go for dinner.”

Vydra has had to be patient for his chance at Turf Moor since his £11million move from Derby County.

He underwent surgery earlier in the summer and has been working his way up to fitness since signing for the club in the final week of the transfer window.

He made his first appearance from the bench against Olympiakos on Thursday night and although he was unable to keep the Clarets in Europe he did make a goalscoring bow.

“From my personal view it’s nice to score on your debut but I’m sad like most of the lads because everyone wanted to play in the Europa League group stages,” Vydra said.

“We missed so many chances. I don’t think Olympiakos deserved to go through but they won 3-1 at home so it was key for them.”

A hatful of chances came and went for the Clarets and on another night they could easily have overturned the first leg deficit from Athens.

But as Vydra said, sometimes you have nights like this.

“Sometimes you do, sometimes you have lucky days with a deflection or a lucky goal. Tonight we were unlucky because we had so many chances,” the 26-year-old added.

“We were so close, we missed a couple of times and the defenders came out and kicked the ball away. But that’s football.

“It’s frustrating. We played a good game today, we created so many chances, but we couldn’t score.

“Now it’s past and it’s better not to think too much about it.”
