THE manner of Burnley's 3-1 defeat to Watford was as disappointing as the result itself, according to Clarets centre back James Tarkowski.

The defender headed in his first goal for the club to draw the Clarets level early on, but two goals at the start of the second half won the game for the Hornets.

It was an uncharacteristically sloppy performance from Burnley and something that Tarkowski hopes they can learn from.

"The result is the most important thing and the way we got beat is as disappointing as getting beat," he said.

"We were sloppy at the start of both halves which is going to cost you at this level and Watford punished us.

"It’s something we’ve got to look at and improve on.

"We don’t have many of them, we don’t concede three goals very often and we’re not known for being sloppy, we’re known for being at it all the time so that’s disappointing.

"If they score three worldies from outside the box then it’s fair enough, but I think we can affect the goals a bit better, then I don’t think we affected them after that, we didn’t create many chances to get back in it."

Burnley enjoyed a bright start to the Premier League season at Southampton a week ago and returned to Turf Moor in confident mood against a Watford side who hadn't scored away since the start of January.

But it was an off for Sean Dyche's men and one Tarkowski is keen to put right at the earliest possible opportunity.

"It’s one game so we’re not going to over analyse it and say we’ve got a big problem, but you never really want an off day so we will look at it," the 25-year-old said.

"We’ve got plenty of games coming up where we can bounce back and get at it again so we’ll look forward to Thursday."

Tarkowski headed in Johann Berg Gudmundsson's corner for his first Burnley goal.

"It’s been a long time coming for me, I’ve been here nearly three years and hadn’t scored," he said.

"I sometimes find myself being in the opposite place to the ball, in my box I always seem to be near the ball.

"I’d like to get on the end of a few more and score a couple more to help out the forward lads, but defending is what I’ll concentrate on most rather than scoring goals."
