JORDAN Clark secured Accrington Stanley a point as the Reds came from behind to draw 1-1 with Charlton Athletic at the Wham Stadium.

Karlan Grant put the visitors in front on 19 minutes with a header ruled to have crossed the line by the assistant referee on the far side.

The Addicks were the better team in the first half and Connor Ripley made several key saves before and after the interval to keep the Reds in the game.

But John Coleman’s side rallied in the final 20 minutes and dragged themselves level.

Clark’s equaliser came after great work from Sam Finley down the left hand side. The former AFC Fylde man worked himself some space and his cross found Sean McConville whose shot was blocked but the ball fell to Clark who steered home the equaliser.

The Reds came close again six minutes from time when Offrande Zanzala headed Callum Johnson’s cross just wide.

Stanley finished with a real flourish and Clark could have won it in added time but his right footed effort a lightning quick counter was too easy for Dillon Phillips as the home side had to settle for a draw.

In truth it was a point that didn’t looked like coming once Charlton had gone in front through Grant’s header.

After an even opening 15 minutes, the Addicks were the better team and created the clearer chances in a half punctuated by foul after foul by both sides.

The frequency of Ross Joyce’s whistle prevented either side from building momentum but it was Charlton who created the better chances with Grant, Lyle Taylor and Darren Pratley coming close.

Stanley’s best effort came in stoppage time when Sean McConville worked himself a yard of space on the left and his dangerous cross was glanced just wide by Billy Kee.

The Stanley striker had hardly been in the game and was replaced early in the second period by Offrande Zanzala as John Coleman sought an alternative method to trouble the Charlton back three.

The Addicks though began the second half the brighter with Ripley denying Lapslie at his near post and then comfortably holding on Lyle Taylor’s effort.

But Stanley roused themselves for a big finish and secured a share of the spoils thanks to Clark.

It is a point in the right direction and shows that the Reds can more than hold their own in League One.
