AARON Lennon believes his former England teammate Joe Hart has come to a ‘great club’ to get his career back on track.

And the winger has backed Hart to get back into Three Lions recognition if he continues to shine for the Clarets.

After a difficult couple of years with loan spells away from Manchester City at Torino and West Ham, Hart signed an initial two-year deal with Burnley and has already impressed in his first two starts for the club, keeping clean sheets against Istanbul Basaksehir and Southampton.

Lennon has played international football with Hart since a young age and he’s delighted to see him join a competitive goalkeepers union at Turf Moor, with Tom Heaton and Nick Pope, when he returns from injury, also eyeing the No.1 shirt and England recognition.

“I’ve played with Joe for a long time. I’ve played with him at youth and senior level for England. He’s a top quality goalkeeper, everyone knows that,” Lennon said.

“He’s a great lad as well, he brings another level of experience. We have top goalkeepers as it is, he brings the competition within the squad.

“We’ve got some top goalkeepers here, he bring even more competition.”

Lennon signed for the Clarets in January and is ‘loving’ life at Turf Moor after a tough spell at Everton.

It could be a similar story for Hart, who was frozen out at City under Pep Guardiola and is now keen to remind everyone of his abilities.

His spells in Serie A with Torino and at West Ham last season didn’t go according to plan and Hart lost his place in the England squad as a result, but Lennon believes a fresh start with Burnley could the perfect tonic.

“I think it will be a great for him. He’s had a few loan spells and sometimes the loan spells can be difficult because you’re not at your club,” the 31-year-old said.

“I think this is going to be a great club for Joe and I think he’ll shine.”

Hart was still in the Three Lions squad in March but lost out in the battle to make the World Cup party to Pope, who enjoyed a stunning season at Turf Moor when he replaced the injured Heaton.

But Pope is now set to be out for around four months as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder suffered in the Europa League second qualifying round first leg tie at Aberdeen.

Heaton, who suffered the same injury last season but is now back fit and was on the bench at Southampton, will also be fighting for a return to the international set-up.

But if Hart can maintain possession of the shirt at Burnley, Lennon sees no reason why the Turf new boy can’t force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

“I don’t see why not. Any of the three goalkeepers could be in the England squad, that’s how good they are,” he added.

“If he gets a run of games and he’s keeping clean sheets already, that’s two on the bounce, I don’t see why he can’t get back in the England squad.”

Lennon’s own Turf Moor renaissance continues to gather pace and he is enjoying his football with the Clarets.

“I’m loving it and from the moment I got here it’s been great,” he added. “I had a good pre-season, I’m feeling really sharp, I’m feeling really good.

“You’ve always got to put a shift in here. That comes first and it’s something that all the boys do. We work hard, pre-season was tough, but we all enjoy it.”
