Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka is relaxed over Rovers’ pursuit of Ben Brereton.

Rovers saw a bid in excess of £5m for the teenager rejected on deadline day but haven’t given up hope on bringing him to Ewood Park.

A loan deal with a view to a permanent deal is understood to be being pursued before the August 31 deadline.

Asked about Brereton, who is yet to feature in a matchday squad this season, Karanka told the Nottingham Post: “I think, again, it is something that has to make three parties happy.

“If Blackburn want the player, the player wants to go and the amount of money is good for Forest, then good.

“If nothing arrives with that, then I am really pleased. Because he is a really good player, with a really good future.

“Always, it is about those three parties. If the offer is no good, we are going to say no. If the player does not want to go, it will not happen.

“I am calm, I have the player here, he has a very good future. Let’s see.”

The 19-year-old has made 53 Championship appearances for Forest and has scored eight goals.

The Academy graduate is thought to be highly-rated at Forest but has fallen down the pecking order behind Daryl Muprhy and Lewis Grabban.

“I like him, I have said that always,” Karanka added.

“We have Lewis and Daryl, but Ben can learn a lot from both of them.

“And with a lot of games to play, maybe he will have his chance. I like him as a player and if he wants to stay here and an offer does not arrive, I will be really pleased for him and pleased with him, because he is a really good player with a good future.

“I will be happy when it is September 1.”
