TEENAGE goalkeeper George McMahon is looking forward to learning from the Clarets' England stoppers after signing on at Turf Moor.

The 18-year-old has penned a two-year professional contract, with the option of a further 12 months, after impressing during a trial spell with the Under-23s.

Born in Manchester, McMahon grew up in Hull and spent time with the Tigers and York City before completing a two-year scolarship with Rotherham United, leaving the Millers at the end of last season.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is now looking forward to getting started at Turf Moor and learning from the likes of Joe Hart, Tom Heaton and Nick Pope.

“The first day I walked in, Tom Heaton was there to shake my hand and ask how we were all doing,” said McMahon.

“That was amazing and Joe Hart is here now, another England international for a lot of years, and Nick Pope has just played at a World Cup.

“It’s funny because I used to go and watch Popey when I was at York.

“It’s been amazing to have the opportunity to train with them every now and then.

“And just to see them walking around the building gives me so much to learn from.”

McMahon is now determined to make the most of the facilities on offer at the Barnfield Training Centre after signing his first professional deal.

“To have the opportunity to be at a club with this status and the facilities it has, I’m really, really chuffed,” he added.

“To be a professional footballer is a dream come true, but it is obviously a small step.

“There is a long way to go, but if I can use the opportunity I’ve been given and make the most of every area of the club – the sports science and all the training facilities – hopefully I can maximise my potential and see where it takes me.”
