Derrick Williams has made it a trio of Rovers players who have been ruled out of the trip to Carlisle United.

The full-back missed the weekend draw with Millwall with a foot problem and won't travel to Brunton Park.

However, there is better news on Dominic Samuel who will return to the squad after a one match absence.

Williams joins Jacob Davenport (hip-flexor) and Ben Gladwin (knee) on the treatment table, but the 25-year-old isn't expected to be out injured for any extended period.

Boss Tony Mowbray said: “Derrick won’t be joining us. Dominic will, Ben Gladwin won’t and Jacob Davenport won’t but apart from that everyone else is available and it’s just about selection.

“They have to get fit ultimately. They work with the physio department and the doctors and then when they’re available again I will get told.

“I ask about their welfare but my focus is mainly on the players who are fit and the ones we will work with to try and win games.

“Jacob will be fine in a couple of weeks, he’s working hard in the gym every day. It’s a shame with him being new to the football club but there’s a fair chance he wouldn’t have been starting the football matches at the moment for us.

“He has to learn how we play, what we do, the expectation of his position and role within the team and that can take longer than a few weeks in pre-season.

“He looks a tidy, athletic, economical footballer who moves the ball around the pitch.”

Gladwin, who joined last summer from QPR, is yet to make a league start for Rovers.

He hasn't played since November because of a knee injury, before picking up a similar problem in pre-season.

And Mowbray explained: “Ben Gladwin is a little bit different, he’s been here over a year and it’s not really taken off for him.

“This injury just compounded that a little bit, but he’s got the support of everyone.

“He’s in with the physios working hard every day and we’ll wait and see. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we see him back on the training pitch.”

Kasey Palmer is one player confirmed to be starting against the League Two side in a bid to build-up his match fitness following his loan move from Chelsea.

Mowbray added: “For Kasey to play how we want him to play he has to improve his fitness a little bit which I have talked to him about.

“He understands that.

“That’s why he has played as a substitute and then came off after an hour. We will keep progressing him.

“Kasey will play tomorrow because he needs to in my opinion and keep his fitness levels going and improve his stamina.”
