MATEJ Vydra will make his first appearance in a Clarets shirt today but Steven Defour is going to be out for a 'number of weeks', according to boss Sean Dyche.

Vydra, an £11million arrival from Derby County last week, will feature in Burnley Under-23s Professional Development League opener against Cardiff City, which is now being played behind closed doors.

The 26-year-old is still working his way up to full fitness so the game with the Bluebirds is an opportunity to continue that.

Fellow new signing Ben Gibson is also likely to play alongside Kevin Long in defence, while Tom Heaton is set to start in goal.

The club captain was on the bench at Southampton on Sunday but hasn't played since suffering a minor calf injury.

But Robbie Brady and Defour won't play against Cardiff. Both returned from serious knee injuries at the start of pre-season but have since suffered setbacks.

Republic of Ireland winger Brady is still on his way back from a minor hamstring injury, while Defour picked up a calf injury during the training camp in Cork a month ago and he is set to remain on the sidelines for a few weeks yet.

Of the players likely to feature for Michael Duff's side, Dyche said: "Vyds will play, Robbie maybe not, still on the back of a niggle. Nothing too serious we don’t think.

"But Vyds will definitely play, Tom possibly, we can only play three and a keeper, Tom, Longy, Ben, and Vyds probably the four.

“Steven Defour is not ready, he’s going to be a number of weeks I think.

"Robbie is closer, but we still have to be careful, they’ve been out months and it’s important they come back with every chance go be up and running and not throw them back too quickly."
