Tony Mowbray has money available to further strengthen his squad and is hoping to be active ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

The Rovers boss is eyeing four more additions to complete his squad between now and the end of the month, when the loan window closes.

Rovers brought in Adam Armstrong on a four-year deal on Monday, for a fee understood to be an initial £1.75m, and have also signed Joe Rothwell, Jacob Davenport and Kasey Palmer.

A striker is top of Mowbray’s wishlist, while a central defender, new goalkeeper and possible central midfield reinforcements are other areas where the boss could look to strengthen.

Clubs have until 5pm tomorrow to make permanent signings and when asked if there was room in his budget for more signings, the boss said: “Yes, definitely. We are working hard behind the scenes but, as always looking for the right ones.

“We have lists of players and as I’ve said in the past if you can’t get target number one then you look to get number two.

“It’s been difficult to hit top targets all of the time, one because of the finance and two because good players have other options.

“I would have to say that Adam had other options as well and we had some tough competition at the end but I’m delighted that he’s here.

“Let’s see if we can secure permanent deals but if not then beyond that we will keep working hard to try and add to the squad.

“The plan would be that on September 1 the squad is a lot stronger than it was when we finished last season.”

Rovers could look to utilise the Premier League loan market having already brought in 21-year-old Palmer on a season-long deal from Chelsea.

Mowbray is open to signing more players on loan, affording him more time to bring new faces in, with a view to making deals permanent further down the line.
