BURNLEY are close to signing Derby County striker Matej Vydra.

The Clarets made their move for last season's Championship top scorer this week and are now understood to be on the verge of sealing a deal for the 26-year-old, who is reported to be undergoing a medical today.

Leeds United had an £11million bid for Vydra accepted earlier this summer but the striker rejected personal terms at Elland Road.

Nahki Wells is likely to move in the opposite direction, but this is likely to be a season-long loan rather than a permanent deal.

Wells joined Burnley for £5million on deadline day a year ago but he arrived having undergone a foot operation and didn't feature until December. He made nine substitute appearances in the Premier League but played just 46 minutes.

A deal for Vydra would mean the Clarets have signed the Championship's top scorer for the second summer in a row, following the £15million deal to bring Chris Wood to Turf Moor last August.

Vydra scored 21 league goals in 40 games last term.
